As a Platinum for life with SPG I've stayed at hundreds of Westin hotels globally, this might be the least memorable. Decent but lacking a punch. Predominantly a bridal reception hotel with multiple concurrent wedding halls/events very frequently. Several attached very expensive restaurants. Basement level has a beauty salon where I had the best hot facial shave in my entire... More

I have read several negative reports about this older, majestic hotel. We were probably lucky to have booked deluxe double and twin rooms, because they were huge! Not only by Japanese standards. Clean and comfortable too. The staff was overall very helpful and friendly, with a higher than normal grasp of the English language. The hotel is older, but in... More

I stayed in The Westin Kyoto for 3 nights with my girlfriend. The rooms are nice and clean, and the hotel staff is super nice and helpful in case of need of assistance. The hotel is also perfectly located being close to several temples (reachable with a 10 minutes walk) and to a metro stop to reach the other parts... More

Don t stay on the road side, you van ear all the traffic. Rooms are old, And you can ear people passing in the Hall. The buffet is cheap, And the food too, just leave the Hotel. I don t try the other restaurants, because if one if bad, then generally i don t try the others. I wanted to... More

The Westin Miyako is an outstanding hotel. We've stayed here twice, recently and on another visit in 2006, and find the location both restful and convenient. It's in the eastern part of the city, just up the hill from the Heian Shrine and down the street from the Nanzenji temple. The subway stop is next to the hotel: you can... More

The lobby of the hotel is very nice and we had a nice tea time in the lobby restaurant with a choice of delicious cakes. Although we did not go to the restaurants, they looked nice. The rooms are why I give this three stars. I just can't get past stained carpets and wallpaper. The rooms were drab and mediocre... More

Great Hotel, near to city, near to temples, free and frequent shuttles to JR Kyoto station. Like all Japanese hotels, gym and pool need to be additionally paid on the side, by say USD25 or so per head per visit. As always, there's great service and great food. A fab place to stay in Kyoto.

Plus points: nice location, handy for tourist sites, great views, courtesy shuttle bus, big room, if a little plain, but generally functional. Minus points: not up to the standard of other Westin hotels I've stayed at. Needs some refurbishment (the breakfast restaurant, Aquablu, is rather dingy, no natural light and the carpet needs a good clean !). No drawers for... More

If you’ve ever stayed at a Westin before, this should feel like coming home. And for us, after several days of walking, sight seeing and travel by train, this felt like home. A few quick notes: 1. They have a happy hour. Partake. Your drinks will be roughly $6. This is the best deal in town. 2. Staying here, you... More

Grandiose hotel that is kept up to scratch but it has seen better days. The building is so enormous with several restaurants, gyms and spa + fitness areas. They run a courtesy bus from the train station with several drop off station by the way. Metro station conveniently located next to the hotel. Room we had was spacious, equipped with... More

Staying in City Center

Neighborhood Profile
City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.
