The first room for two people was small and had so much furniture in it there was no room for people. It had so much stuff in every drawer and on every flat surface, there was no room for people's things. There were no plug options, as each of the four caked-with-dirt extension cords was full. Bathroom was okay size....

We stayed on the top floor and had a great view from our suite. The beds were very comfortable and the bathroom modern and clean. The furniture may be outdated but it didn't take away from feeling safe and comfortable. The shuttle service to and from the train station is most convenient and easy to use. The Chinese retaurant here...

My husband and I almost always stay at Starwood properties, so we were excited that Kyoto had one, but when we got to the Westin Miyako we were extremely disappointed. Service and decor were both mediocre and the rooms need renovation. Now there is the Suiran, a Luxury Collection Hotel in Kyoto, a new SPG property there so for you...

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. While I wish you had a better experience, it is feedback like this that we learn from and use to improve. We work hard to deliver an exceptional guest experience, and it's apparent in this case that we fell short. If you give us a chance to earn back your...

There was nothing wrong with this hotel - just not our 'cup of tea' - it was far too impersonal - and geared towards large groups - weddings and had a very corporate feel to it. Being asked to sign for and threatened to be charged if you didn't return a adaptor really summed it up. The restaurants were very...

I've used my SPG points to book the hotel for me and my elderly mother (had to call instead of doing it online). Since I have status with SPG, they were nice enough to upgraded us to the executive floor, which comes with perks like the lounge access and choice of breakfast in either the Chinese/Japanese restaurant or the buffet....

While located up the hill from downtown, the Westin is set in a quiet area with a really cool bird watching park. The bar, after the sun goes down, is magical with a view of the city, candles and cool "old school" vibe. Plus you can get Blanton's. Rooms are large but bathrooms are dated. Not much around the hotel...

We stayed here for three nights in a Family Room with my Wife and two kids. The room is basically two twin rooms with the wall separating them removed. The room itself was in major need of an upgrade. Chipped paint, faded and stained furniture, ancient bathroom. Really in poor shape given the price of the room. I think the...

As SPG members, we have stayed in many Westin hotels for business trips. We elected to stay here after it was recommended by a colleague. The location is nice, just walking distance from the busy areas of Kyoto and very close to temples, shrines, and the subway. This is a very large, slightly older hotel with many rooms so it...

We loved our stay at the Westin Kyoto and don't understand the negativity of some reviews. We are also Platinum members, and were very happy with the amenities we received. For breakfast, we were given our choice of the buffet in Aquablu, the Japanese-style breakfast in Chisen, or a more basic breakfast on the Tenth Floor lounge. We usually went...

The Westin Miyako was one of the best properties me and my wife have ever stayed for the pure hospitality aspect. The service and staff are unbelievable at this property. Staying in City Center

Neighborhood Profile
City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.
