Very conveniently located in the Higashiyama area where there are temples and shrines aplenty. The ryokan-style rooms are quite large and gives you a good experience of traditional Japan while maintaining the convenience of the Westin brand.

We were so satisfied with our 4 nights here! The staff and concierge were extremely helpful and gave great recommendations. The bellmen (women, too!) were kind and engaging. The rooms were lovely and the beds were divine. There's a train station very nearby but there's also a Westin shuttle if you'd prefer to go that route. We were 100% satisfied... More

Stayed at the property for one evening for a special occasion. The hotel was professional in every single way. I had emailed them prior to inform them of occasion and also to request a certain room type: Japanese traditional room. They responded promptly with no hesitation in granting my request. Amazing follow up! The hotel operates a shuttle service form... More

The room was very clean and a reasonable size in a very handy spot if walking everywhere. A bit of a walk to the train station but all very handy. Very friendly and helpful staff too, would stay again, thank you.

When booked I has no idea of what was in store but when we arrived I was in awe. The hotel is beautiful and there is so much to do on the grounds themselves. There's a bird watching path on the 7th floor, an observation deck on the 9th, and the subway is right neck to the side entrance. The... More

We traveled to Tokyo for spring break and spent a couple of nights in Kyoto. We picked this Westin due to its central location and reviews. The property was close to several of the tourist attraction we visited (Kiyomizu Temple, Kinkaku-ji, Bamboo forest and Fushimi). I thought the property was very nice and the rooms were spacious. Also, they sell... More

Efficient check in and helpful staff. Location was good to visit tourist attractions. The rooms were spacious clean and nice to sleep and rest in. There were local and unique restaurants near the place.

Stayed at this hotel because nothing else was available. It's a Westin in name only. Badly in need of renovation - new carpets, new furniture, redone bathrooms, etc.. Beds were fine, but otherwise - yuck. Non-smoking rooms are surrounded by smoking rooms - beware! Breakfast is strange - not western or Japanese. Lots of choices like 'tomatoes with honey' and... I stayed in this hotel from Jun 27 to Jun 29, 2016 to celebrate my 40th Birthday. While the facilities and view of the hotel is great, as a SPG Life member, I was flabbergasted by their lack of customer service and they certainly do not bother about the SPG status either. 1. the overall attitude of the service staff... I stayed here for 4 days on business. The standard of service was excellent: professional and friendly. The food was lovely and fresh, with an excellent selection of japanese and western breakfast options. I stayed in the older wing of the hotel where rooms - especially the bathrooms - were somewhat dated; but they included everything I needed. The hotel... More

Staying in City Center

Neighborhood Profile
City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.
