We took note of other trip advisor reviews and made sure the taxi driver took us to the correct Mitsui Garden Hotel. Overall the hotel is very clean and modern. It is a bit of a walk away from the main tourist attractions in Kyoto but if you are happy to walk or catch public transport it is a lovely... More

Modern hotel with rooms in 4 floors so on the small side. Staff is just wonderful, helpful and friendly. Amenities are top notch. Location is good, with lots of eating options nearby. Breakfast options within 2 blocks, Starbucks is 6 minutes away. The only downside is that the wifi is on the slow side, but the hotel is so good,... More

Great location, friendly , helpful and efficient team. Breakfasts didnt encourage us to eat onbansai ryouri in hotel but would be only downside. Staff were great at sending luggage on, booking restaurants, arranging taxis and was a very relaxed feel. Not too big a hotel. New hotel so facilities were good .

This hotel is gorgeous and new. We had a comfortable triple room. Very clean hotel. The staff were fantastic and patient . Closer to kawaramachi station than the JR station but worth the stay. I'd definitely go back.

Mitsui Garden Chain is one of my favourites in Japan. They are great hotel, all sporting a mandatory "Daiyoukujyo" (or public bath), which I love. The place doesn't have many "frills", rooms are quite basic and "japan sized" (unless you ask for big rooms), prices are reasonable. All in all I have had always good experiences. Last time I was... This was far better than we expected! The staff were incredible, the space is beautifully designed. The linen was divine, the only down side is the bathroom is a bit daggy. Highly recommended. Amazing location, close to everything.

I booked this hotel as our base for our first visit to Kyoto. The trip would coincide with my girlfriend's birthday, so we decided to splurge and have dinner at a famous traditional Kaiseki restaurant we have heard and seen so much about. As with a lot of fine dining restaurants in Tokyo and Osaka, a booking for foreigners usually... More

Very nicely decorated Japanese style in modern touch. Extremely clean and friendly staff. Perfect location in central Kyoto. Close to Gion/ Pontocho, Subway station and apBus stop near by. We stayed during Gion Festival. Since the hotel situated middle of festivity so we could just walk through and go back whenever we wanted. We will definettly stay there again when... More

Loved staying here. Room (standard twin) a reasonable size by Japanese standards and on-sight Onsen a real bonus. Has a great feel - modern Japanese, but the where hotel really smashes it is their customer service. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff and they're all lovely people. Can't recommend highly enough. Had dinner there one night: very nice... More

This hotel is renovated and updated on the inside, but the exterior still retains its old charm and heritage. Our room was absolutely beautiful and very clean. All the front desk staff were so helpful and willing to provide us with advice on places to see and dine at. Everyone spoke English so it made it really easy for us... More

Staying in City Center

Neighborhood Profile
City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.
