This is one of the best located hotels in the city, very close to the station and very easy to grab a cab to anywhere in the city, or if you feel like a walk, quite close to a number of major points of interest. The rooms were small, but clean, neat and well renovated and the room servicing was...

Stayed 3 nights in March. 1 minute from Kyoto station so great location. Easy check in. Explained construction next door and upgraded us to a quieter larger room within minutes. Didn't find it an issue as out most of the day. Service excellent and very helpful with restaurant recommendations and booking taxis etc. Rooms clean and beds very comfortable plus...

The rooms are nice, and it is clear they recently renovated at least our floor. But the rooms, the Delux Grand, are TINY and there is no closet/storage. Four hangers in a tiny closet and ZERO drawers. Also, they're building a new structure right next door, so from 8:30-6:00 be prepared to listen to an active construction site. If you're...

I actually got sick in HAKONE eating bad sushi so by the time I arrived at this hotel I was already sick. The staff was very accommodating, they called a taxi at 4am to take me to the ER. They even have a medic on staff but did not come in till later. As I was getting better hotel staff...

My wife and I spent three nights at the Kyoto Century Hotel less than three weeks ago. We were originally going to stay in an upscale ryocan but the photos of it depicted a space that was very minimalist in design almost to the point of sterility. And so we opted for the Century and could not have been more...

The hotel was wonderful. It was clean. The beds were comfortable. The toilet seats were heated (why does America not have this as a standard). The staff was very responsive and friendly. We did not eat at the restaurant but we did have drinks at the bar. My friend about lost his mind when he discovered the bar had Elijah...

This hotel is immediately adjacent to the train station and short walk to a wide variety of restaurants near the station. We booked a nicer double room. The room was very well appointed with a definite upper end feel. Like most hotel rooms in Japan it is on the small side compared to American rooms, However, it was bigger than...

We had two rooms- my husband and I had a room with one queen size bed. The room was very clean and quiet, but was also very small. My son and his friend had a room with two twin beds that was more traditional in that they were to take their shoes off before entering the main part of the...

The room was very nice, clean, centrally located but I wish the restaurant offered more options. It was a bit pricey and the buffet was good but not spectacular. I would stay there again. The staff is nice as well.

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighborhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
