the hotel is in a great location, next to the Kyoto Station with all direct transportation links to all tourist landmarks, also direct trains to Nara, Kansai Airport, Tokyo, Osaka. Excellent choice as a base for a keen tourer and sightseer. Staff very helpful and polite. Some nice decor upgrade would be appreciated.

The room was lovely, modern, light. The location was quite far from the centre and we had to take taxis everywhere (taxis are expensive) The concierge tried really hard and were extremely charming but sadly their recommendations for restaurants and shops were way off the mark.I injured my knee and really needed some disinfectant, dressings. They had no first aid kit... Kyoto Century Hotel is a great home base for a Kyoto trip! Located conveniently steps away from Kyoto Station, with a couple great breakfast restaurants and a quiet bar. The room was nicely furnished, bed comfortable, clean and spacious - much better than what you'll find at a similar price point in Tokyo. Highly recommended!

Walking distance from the main station exit for those unwilling to venture far on first arrival. Also convenient for buses and subway for navigating Kyoto's slow moving traffic. Hotel is mid range business style but tourist dominated hotel. Hiding in the shadow of 5 star hotel neighbours, the rooms are perfectly adequate for a slightly more budget conscious traveller seeking... More

We loved this hotel in such a convenient location. You can then see the hotel on the right between two buildings. The hotel is very... More

The good: everything is provided for, pyjamas, usual toiletries (including facial wash). Bathtub is not as small as I thought. Has not water boiler. Location is fantastic, just beside the Kyoto station (which is the transport hub of kyoto) and bus terminal. The not so good: amenities wise a little limited, no pool. Door frame is very low (est 1.85m).... More

This hotel is perfect for business and sightseeing as it is located right next to the Kyoto Train station - just a short walk to the shinkansen or to express train to Kansai airport. An older hotel, but very well maintained and updated with timeless style. Rooms are comfortable and the hotel feels very welcoming and warm. Excellent buffet breakfast.

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighborhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
