Reviewed yesterday NEW

Just next to the train station and hence super convenient. We stayed in the renovated grand deluxe twin and corner rooms. Rooms weren't spacious but were clean and cosy. Sleep quality was good as both hard and soft pillows were provided .I also like the fact that all rooms in the hotel are non-smoking.

The great pro: great location, the hotel is only 1 block from Kyoto Station, the main train station when you arrive/depart Kyoto from Tokyo, We stayed at a renovated room, as we were told at the front desk that it is "cleaner" and nicer than the others. The bedroom is modern, but it has two cons: a step that is... More

We arrived at the Kyoto Century too early for check in so we left our bags and went to Starbucks for a coffee, but before we left the hotel we decided to use the lobby toilets. We were shocked they were really shabby, our hearts dropped as we were booked for a three night stay. Would this be an indication of... More

Pros: location (right next to the train station), lobby (well appointed), cleanliness (no problems) Cons: rooms (overlooked railroad track and was so loud even though they think it is not), outdated and small room which I found out later was on the floor that wasn't renovated...renovated rooms, which I got moved to one after complaining, were MUCH nicer, breakfast buffet... The Kyoto Century has extremely well appointed rooms (ours was 1089) of a sufficient size. The staff are numerous and extremely courteous and professional, responding well to polite conversation. Only a couple of minutes from railway station and bus terminus. To be highly recommended.

Hotel is only 1 block from the main train station when you arrive/depart Kyoto from Tokyo, so really a good choice. Quiet but basic rooms, small by US standards. Low ceiling in hallways too and I am only 5 ft 10 inches. Buffet style Breakfast was pretty good. Service was superb always - polite and efficient. English spoken well enough... More

Beautifully appointed rooms, a bit on the small side, but that is expected being in downtown Kyoto. The hotel is walking steps from Kyoto station with tons of shopping and food nearby. The breakfast buffet was excellent with tons of western and Japanese choices. We will definitely book again next time we are in Kyoto.

This is probably THE most convenient hotel, located just next to the Kyoto station. The staff was extremely helpful. Hotel impeccably clean, breakfast was a bountiful buffet. Though there are comments that people got tired of the same things... it's breakfast... it covered Japanese Chinese and western diets. Hard to do more than that. Yes the rooms are VERY small... Hotel is in great location. Staff seemed friendly enough. Hotel rooms are small, but that is typical for this part of the world. Bathroom was terribly small though. I felt the hotel decor was a little dated and worn out actually, but I would say everything was clean. I was underwhelmed with the breakfast buffet. Something I tried to understand... More

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighborhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
