We stayed here for 4 nights, on our way back from Hiroshima to Tokyo. It's only a few minutes walk from the station exit, near the Kyoto Tower. To be honest, it looks very plain and rather dated from the outside, but the inside is much classier! The room was quite large, with a huge bathroom area (separate toilet and... More

I have just spent a couple nights there and it was a joy to stay. The hotel is perfectly situated next to the train station which makes it ideal for sightseeing. The room is a great size compared to what you get everywhere else in Japan. The staff a very friendly and helpful. The hotel has a couple of restaurants... More

We chose this hotel due to its location and were not disappointed by this. It is very close to the station for Shinkansen and local trains as well as bus stops for sight seeing. Also many places to eat nearby from restaurants to eateries near the station where many locals eat on their way home (in the Pronto area ).... More

This hotel was well appointed, and rooms were beautifully presented. Everything to make our stay enjoyable had been thought of. Tea and coffee making facilities were excellent. Free wifi was excellent and decor was outstanding. Breakfast, included in our package, was a buffet with a huge variety of European or Asian choices. Staff was always friendly, helpful and smiling. Hotel... More

Location is great. Newly renovated room which is impressive based on first look. Once you start to unpack, you will notice that there is insufficient closet space and no drawers to place your clothing. Breakfast is standard buffet. Service but all staff are super, very helpful.

Stayed at the Kyoto Century Hotel July 27 thru July 29. Located 1 block (short walk) from the subway station. Location is a very busy and active area of Kyoto with plenty of restaurants in the area. Hotel staff was terrific. Always smiling and helpful. Great breakfast selection that should satisfy Americans, Europeans and Asians.

Great location next to Kyoto station - well equipped good sized guest rooms with excellent shower. Service was great - only complaint is that the free WiFi was very slow. CNN is the only English TV channel - forced to watch their crappy coverage.

My husband and I booked a large bed room - room size was quite small, but the bathroom was a decent size with ample counter space and separate space with sliding door for toilet. The shower and tub were in one room (Japanese style with no separation between the 2). We were on the 9th floor with no view, but... More

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighborhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
