This was booked by our travel agent as a double room was very small and the bed was hard. It was close walking distance to malls a restaurants and the western breakfast was a bit limited. The staff were always helpful. If you plan to...More
Stayed 2 nights January. Rooms ok can fit 2 luggage. Older style rooms. Bathroom good. Can walk to markets and all night life if you like walking or station close 5mins. Staff helpful. Hotel shows on a few tourists maps which is helpful getting around.
The Hearton was a nice hotel with attentive staff, just off the main thoroughfare. It was close to shops, malls, restaurants, and the Metro. I found it ideal as a centre to explore from. The nearby Tube stations were invaluable as we explored various tourist...More
I have stayed in this hotel before and visited japan many times. I love this hotel for the helpfulness of the staff, the location, the great breakfasts ... Great place except for one thing: This time I must have got the smallest room in the...More
A bit worn rooms but clean. Western breakfast wasn’t too varied but ok. Location a bit North from the “center” but a 20min walk will get you there. Subway is very close. They also have bikes for guests and it’s free. Two laundry machines if...More

Kyoto Prefecture >
City Center / Kawaramachi / Karasuma / Shijo Omiya
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of
local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.

I bought JR Wide Pass & ICOCA Card - JR Wide pass for JR Haruka Limited from Kansai Airport all the way to Kyoto Station. From Kyoto Station, I used ICOCA Card to Karasuma Oike Station.
Not too sure about Kansai thru pass

It is higly unlikely that they would allow early check-in. They really like to stick to their strict protocols when it suits them. Don't get me wrong though - there are lots of nice staff members there too - but read my review to get a good idea of the place and the attitudes.
They are not very understanding - unless you invent a sob-story or a medical condition that requires the necessity of an early room.
It is likely they will insist that you store your luggage and go for a walk.
