Our two twin bed rooms in Court Hotel were the smallest we encountered in Japan...uncomfortably small if we were to spend much time in them, which fortunately is not our traveling style. The bath was a really cramped little hybrid western style/Japanese style thing and had an almost 18 in high threshold to step over to enter. The beds on... More

We had stayed at many hotels all over Japan and this was the best value. The bed was so comfortable, the room larger than most, as well as the bathroom, and it was very clean! Internet was reliable and service adequate. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone staying a few nights in Kyoto. City is easily accessible from... More

Standard small Japanese room but slightly bigger and good value considering how much the room costs. The bed was nice and soft without being too soft, 5-10 min walk to station. Good staff, no real amenties. cheap and cheerful good bang for buck

Pretty good hotel and very convenient to stay in Kyoto. The bus stop very near from hotel and subway station is not too far. It's quite suitable for travellers who want to save cost. You can deposite your luggages before checked-in and also after checked-out.

Not the cheapest option but very comfortable in a good location. Spacious room, good bathroom. Service is good, breakfast is good too. Reasonable 5-10 min walk to the nearest metro. Buses are better option.

I was travelling with my mom and my sister so we stayed in the triple bedroom. The room is spacious and even can fit in 2 huge suitcases! The toilet is really in high technology as well as providing air freshener in the room. The breakfast buffet provided is in variety of choices, if you don't mind it is mostly... More

This place is in a good spot for down-town Kyoto, shops, buses, and trains. The room was bigger than most I'd experienced in Japan. The bed was comfy, but the room itself and especially the bathroom was not very clean (always a put off when you find numerous hairs belonging to other people in your bathroom). The hotel offers free... More

Wife and I stayed here for 3 nights. We opted for their breakfast service in the morning, and I have to say it was a good decision. Breakfast service starts promptly at 7am which gives you enough time to eat and head out early enough to beat all the tour groups and crowds. The breakfast was tasty and filling. The... More

Pros: very close to JR station, hotel has onsite laundry facilities for 300yen to wash and 100yen to dry for 30mins, neat rooms Cons: smoke was evident on non-smoking floors constantly, we found 1-inch of mould growing on shower vents not addressed by house keeping, room constantly had a smell of mould emanating from the bathroom, and we found dust... The hotel is just round the corner of Shijo street which is an important street for shops and bus stops as well as subway train. Free Wifi is provided. However TV stations were all in Japanese and none in English. Dressing gowns also provided! The buffet breakfast consisted of both Japanese and European food to offer a wide choice. The... More

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighborhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
