This place is a find. Nothing exceptional but we weren't after that sort of place. We needed somewhere in a good location to stay the night in Kyoto, with good transport links and with a few eateries and bars nearby. Thats exactly what we got! Plus it was nice and clean, with helpful friendly staff and in the foyer theres... More

Great location near the train station, chemist, eateries and shopping mall. Wifi is free in the room but a bit scratchy. Very clean place and pleasant staff. The Rooms are basic complete with the capsule bathroom. The foyer is really nice. (Hence this and that) Check out the koi fish against the back wall. Breakfast is not included but you... More

Quiet area, cosy room and friendly staff. Room includes a wifi, TV (with limited English channels), electric kettle and some tea. Located about a 10-15 min walk from the heart of Kyoto, where you can find street performers, shopping malls, a casino, restaurants, bars and even some clubs. Stayed here in Oct 2015. Would definitely come back.

We had a pleasant stay in this Hotel. We were assigned a room in floor 10, which gave a good view for some street pictures and a quiet room. Hotel is old but well maintained. Room was very clean and we were provided with water, electric kettle, and tea (marvelous). Toilets in this hotel (and most of those hotel we... More

With limited availability during New Years Eve, we booked this hotel to be near the hustle and bustle of Kyoto. It was great for the money but a little old. Would have preferred to have a newer or more renovated room but this did suffice. 3 stars.

Clean, nicely decorated rooms. Small with the bed against the wall, but that's quite normal in Japan- still had enough room to leave our luggage open during our stay. Television had limited channels with English. Again, pretty typical for Japan. In room slippers, complimentary teas and they had a great little area on our floor where guests can help themselves... The room was small, but had all the basic amenities. There was a kettle for making tea/coffee, refrigerator, black-out drapes, and little wardrobe area. The bed was very comfortable and clean. The staff was very courteous and professional. The in-room wifi worked fine. However, the bathroom did smell. I had to run hot water over the whole room, including the... More

Good location in the Gojo area. Bus stops close by. Easy walk to pedestrian streets and restaurants. Small comfortable room and helpful staff. Room has a hot pot for tea and a refrigerator. The housekeepers cleaning could be better. The wi-fi is adequate. The staff is friendly and helpful.

Room is small but good location and accessible. 24hr supermarket and restaurants nearby. Bus passes can be brought at hotel vending machine. Very convenient for tourists. Railway station is within walking distance and bus stop is just outside of hotel. Staff is friendly. Did not have WiFi in room for the first night but the next three days are fine.... More

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighborhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
