I don't really know why this hostel has such high ratings on TA. I dreaded my stay from the moment I arrived. The 2 staff who checked me in on the 4th of March were really friendly and really nice. I hadn't realised they didn't accept card payments, but the guy said I could pay it before I checked out,and... More

Great atmosphere/vibe here. It's small indeed, but I was able to consistently find a quiet place to teach on-line when I stayed here for 30 days in the dorm! The owner Komeo is a super cool dude...and Taku is now the manager he is a very hard worker, good English can help you with anything. There is a younger Japanese... More

Would definitely stay here again. The staff are some of the nicest people you will ever meet and they never fail to make you feel welcome and like you're at home. They were so kind from the moment we got there until the moment we left. And they speak English pretty well. When we checked in we were given a... More

I stayed here with four other members of my exchange group for 10 days. We were traveling on a budget and it was the perfect place for us. A great location close to some major spots and close to bus stops for sites that are farther away. The staff was incredibly helpful in telling us where to go see, and... More

Kyoto itself already caught my heart and Hostel Mundo Chiquito definitely made a plus point for me to be in love with this lovely place. The hostel is small yet clean and equipped. It has everything you want : friendly staff, clean toilet, privacy, good location, new friends and memories! 5 nights spending here isn't enough for us and we... More

Staff are so friendly that they help their guest in their best way. They are laid back and gave so many information about the places to visits. The room is clean, laundry service exist. Good atmosphere that you can share your time with other guests in the very nicely decorated common room. They cooperate with a neighborhood bar that has... More

very particular place if you want to have some experience of the ryokan style and not spend fortune; we stayed 2 nights; the staff was very nice, spoke good English; there's also a bike rental so it's handy; good connection to buses and metro lines, fairly close to shops and Nijo Castle; the only downside was a broken shower and... Absolutely loved my stay at Hostel Mundo Chiquito. The staff are very helpful and friendly and it was such a pleasure talking with the well-travelled people. The hostel is an old though very clean machiya-style house. Showers were brand-new and modern with enough to space to get changed. Bunk beds come with a power outlet, lamp, curtains and a big... 2000yen per night via Booking.com for a shared bunk bed (with curtains and a power plug so its quite similar to a capsule hotel without the provided robes and free toiletries) was the cheapest stay I had in Osaka, Kyoto & Tokyo. You can request for a towel to use from the ever friendly staff at reception. There is free... More

Staying in City Center

Neighborhood Profile
City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.
