Spent two nights at this hotel during my trip to Japan. The location is good, close to the train station. Room was fine, though a little small. Bathroom seemed a little old, but there was nothing wrong with it. No noise. Breakfast was good, very Japanese. You’ll find few options for a more western/continental breakfast here. Staff was very helpful,... More

My wife and I spent 10 days in the Kansai region and this hotel was the last one before we fly home. We stayed in 5 other hotels before staying our last two days there. If we can wind the clock back we would have stayed everyday in this hotel. The hotel is two blocks from Kyoto Station, less than... More

I stayed for two nights at Almont Hotel in Kyoto, a relaxing five-minute walk from the Hachijo exit from the station. Staff at reception were very welcoming and, had I needed it, were competent enough in English to put any traveller at ease. The room was right beside the elevator but there was no noise. The facilities were excellent, with... More

We are currently into the 4th day of our 6 nights stay at this hotel here in Kyoto. It's a 10 minute walk from Kyoto Station and located in a quiet part of the city. The hotel is in good condition and premise is clean. There is a public bath located on the 2nd Floor (ladies bath is separate and... More

Positives: Free wifi, location is nice (though on the quieter side of the station, and can be a tad confusing to get to), staff is nice and helpful, public bath is decent, tarriff is cheap (one of the best parts about the hotel). Negatives: Rooms are really small, bathroom a bit cramped (this is the primary negative factor), bit far... More

The hotel is a bit difficult to find, so would be a torture if you are trying to locate the hotel while carrying heavy luggages. However, spacious room and good service. Nice public hot bath on 2/F. Recommend for travellers with family who plan to spend a few days in kyoto.

We stayed at the Almont Hotel in April 2014, shortly after they opened. We enjoyed the charm of Kyoto so much we returned for another visit this Spring. We found everything at the Almont as acceptable as our first visit and will continue to return. Proximity to Kyoto Station will keep us coming back and we can't say enough about... More

Stayed here in March 2015 as part of our Japan tour. We had previously stayed here in 2013, the hotel is just as good as is the service. Got a twin room this time round, slightly bigger than a double. Standard hotel with extra touches, they were holding origami lessons in reception! Its very clean, relatively low noise and the... My sister and I got a two bedroom room and I felt so comfortable like I was at home. The bathroom was clean and it exactly fits my standards of hotel bathrooms; with its spacious shower and advanced technological wide toilet with all its button. I found it funny when I open the toilet lid and I don't start to... More

Staying in Southern Kyoto

Neighborhood Profile
Southern Kyoto
Southern Kyoto has a reserved air. Though the Fushimi Inari Shrine is one of Kyoto's major tourist attractions, the surrounding nature, parks, gardens, temples, and shrines provide less-visited spaces for strolling and reflection. The Fushimi Inari Shrine itself is made up of 32,000 sub-shrines, and the mountain they are dotted across beckons hikers, picnickers, and lovers of the outdoors. Many of the mountain's off-set paths aren't frequented by tourists, and the mountain's serenity can be enjoyed at a leisurely pace. Southern Kyoto is the place to enjoy being outside, and to pay your respects to the ancient architecture and gods of the land that are celebrated here.
