This is my first night in the hotel and it is more like a motel rather than a hotel. As I lie here writing this review I can hear people walking and talking in the hallway. The bathroom is very small with hardly any place to put your personal toiletries. And the bathroom floor is not level with the room... More

This hotel is very close to the large train station - convenient; also, there us a post office nearby. The hotel was clean. We had a view of parking lot, but it was quiet for a downtown location. The breakfast was limited, especially for those not eating Japanese food. There are a lot of places to eat at the large... More

Thank you very much for choosing KYOTO TOWER HOTEL ANNEX. We are conveniently located in front of JR KYOTO STATION. We are going to have more variety of foods at breakfast. We are sorry that you couldn't enjoy during breakfast. We are going to make efforts for customer satisfaction. We are looking forward to seeing you next time. More

It's old, not updated and also not very clean. Stains in the bathtub, a permanent "pissy" smell in the smallest bathroom/toilet I have ever seen, stains also on the walls of the restaurant. Yes you get what pay for, you can expect something of an European average pension room in a non-urban area. Not a 3 star hotel though right... More

This is a good, clean hotel with an average level of amenity suitable for tourists to Kyoto. This is a 3 - 3.5 star hotel. The rooms are adequate size but the bathroom we had was small, but this is consistent with many hotels in Japan and for a few days easy to adapt to. The hotel is conveniently located... More

My husband and me get the night flight and reach Kyoto early in the morning just passed six, we reached the hotel at about eight o'clock, not difficult to find with our luggage a, just walk out the Kyoto station then we saw the Kyoto tower that from information from trip advisor told, we just use some efforts and found... This is an okay hotel. It was relatively inexpensive and served its purpose for our trip. The staff was friendly and the hotel is really close to the main Kyoto Station. It was a bit cramped for 3 people, but we were not there except for sleeping, so it was fine. The air conditioning was pretty much worthless and the... More

We stayed here for 2 nights and found the location to be excellent for the sights we wanted to see in Kyoto. We had children with us and they were able to accommodate 3 in a room. It was tight however we only had small baggage. The staff were friendly and most spoke English. Very happy and would stay again.

Close to Kyoto Central Station, 5min walking distance, good location and wifi on room. The staff is very friendly and help a lot. Triple Rooms are pretty small, a double room with 3 beds, no space for lugagge and no place for clothes.

Small, compact but clean, friendly, reasonably priced and excellent location. I stayed here for 8 nights and the hotel was the best decision I could have made. Yes the room was small but I was never there. The bathroom is also small but good for Japanese standards. Unless you stay in a 5 star hotel, and pay much more, I... More

As I stated earlier, you really can't beat the location. Just a few minutes from Kyoto Station, lots of shopping and places to eat nearby, a Lawson's convenience store next door, etc. Our room overlooked the Kyoto Tower and came with free tickets to go up the tower (pretty good views). However, this was the worst sleep I had during... More

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighborhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
