The rooms were nice and clean. The staff were also professional and polite. It's a small walking distance from the hotel to the closest shops. It's also near Chinatown. They also offer a free scheduled shuttle service. I will definitely come back to this hotel.

This is the second time staying at the Kyoto Hotel Okura and they always amaze me with their friendliness and extraordinary level of service. This is on top of the excellent, central location of the hotel, across the street from Kyoto City Hall and good sized rooms. Their excellent service staff really go the extra mile to make the hotel... More

The customer service at this hotel is second to none. They can't do enough for you. We were made to feel so welcome each time we returned to the hotel. It is in a great location and the rooms are very clean and larger than average. Breakfast was very good with lovely views of Kyoto and surrounding mountains. Do not... More

Excellent choice for site seeing in Kyoto. Hotel is located at subway station and has entrance from station. even more accessible by walking. Walk to markets shopping great restaurants and even Gion geisha district. We even booked a half day tour through the concierge that picked up from the hotel. Excellent Japanese bakery on site, comfortable room and friendly staff.

Great 5-star hotel. Suite was wonderful, with excellent views of the mountains. Service was excellent. Great Japanese restaurant for kaiseki, best breakfast buffet I have ever seen. Wish we would have stayed longer.

Our family of four, two adults, one 14 year old and one 12 year old, visited the hotel in August 2016. We had two rooms four five nights. We were very disappointed that the hotel does not allow guests under eighteen to us the pool. The Okura Hotel in Tokyo doesn't have this rule and no one advised us of... More

It is a great hotel. We had a standard triple which is a standard double where the couch is converted in a third bed. After bad experiences in other hotels with too small rooms for 3 we were afraid this would be the case here too but it was a surprisingly big room and it was spacious enough. The location... More

Whats so cool about a luggage drop off? Well the Okura has a welcome lounge at Kyoto station. If you arrive early & leave late. You can drop luggage off there & it will be transferred to your hotel , so you can just get on with stuff. This process can be reversed when you leave. There is a cost... More

Nice clean comfortable hotel with European, Japanese or Chinese breakfast. Silent airconditioning. The view from the 17th level breakfast room is great. Superior room is big enough for three people. There are plenty of restaurants but did not try them.

Stayed for 3 nights. Lovely hotel with very attentive staff and well located. The hotel also offers a shuttle bus to Kyoto station (the central hub), but be aware that it is only a 7 seater and so you have to pre book your seats. The rooms offer spectacular views across the city as does the restaurant where breakfast is... More

Staying in City Center

Neighborhood Profile
City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.
