This hotel is clean and its location is great. The room has two double beds, a nice view, and seems nice enough. It isn't a 5 star hotel but is a great places to stay. The breakfast is also good. The air conditioning works very well.

I don't know how anyone could complain about this hotel. For a reasonable (not cheap, but not expensive) price, I stayed in a giant room. The service is impeccable. The location is wonderful with nice shops around the hotel and easy access to the subway from the hotel. There's a l concierge that booked a reservation at a wonderful tempura... More

Husband and I stayed just one night during a tour of Kyoto organised and paid for in UK several months before visit We arrived at the hotel after 23.00 hrs following a very busy day and a ride in the Shinkansen to be virtually ignored by the reception staff/ there were only two couples to check in so I cannot... The hotel Okura has an oldschool European feel to its decor and attitude. The service is a big part of their ethos where they will do anything to make your stay enjoyable. The welcome lounge service is a bonus and run professionally. The room we stayed in was a fantastic mountain view room which was spacious with a large bathroom.... More

I chose the Kyoto Okura Hotel for its invaluable amenities and conveniences, which were provided in spades. Their welcome/host lounge adjacent to Kyoto Station is terrific -- they will hold your bags and/or directly transfer them from the station to the hotel. There is a free shuttle service between the hotel and Kyoto Station, which eliminates both schlepping luggage and... More

Wonderful hotel! Helpful staff and centrally located. My family only had 24 hours in Kyoto and needed two rooms to sleep 5 in total. The rooms were large enough to accommodate 3 twin beds, well decorated and comfortable. The only complaint is the air con did not cool as well as one would hope for a 5 star hotel. The... More

The rooms were nice and clean. The staff were also professional and polite. It's a small walking distance from the hotel to the closest shops. It's also near Chinatown. They also offer a free scheduled shuttle service. I will definitely come back to this hotel.

This is the second time staying at the Kyoto Hotel Okura and they always amaze me with their friendliness and extraordinary level of service. This is on top of the excellent, central location of the hotel, across the street from Kyoto City Hall and good sized rooms. Their excellent service staff really go the extra mile to make the hotel... More

The customer service at this hotel is second to none. They can't do enough for you. We were made to feel so welcome each time we returned to the hotel. It is in a great location and the rooms are very clean and larger than average. Breakfast was very good with lovely views of Kyoto and surrounding mountains. Do not... More

Staying in City Center

Neighborhood Profile
City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.
