Perhaps unsurprisingly, a top class hotel situated in a very convenient location. The double rooms were extremely comfortable and spacious.Only minor quibble would be that the buffet breakfast is extremely busy and you may need to queue. The coffee shop was excellent, with superb pastries.

When we first got to our room I went straight in the bathroom. The door is like a plastic thin flimsy door. You have to take a very small step up. I felt like I was walking into a trailer. The bathroom is very dated. Countertops to the tile in the bathroom. We have two twin beds. You can feel the springs of the mattress with your bare hands, and the mattress dips badly!

-centrally locates plus subway entrance is right below the hotel - don’t need to brave the weather! -wonderful staff with very polite and helpful bellmen to receptionists to concierges -rooms and bathrooms are spacious -bar on second floor is nice. Good drinks! -walking distance to good places to eat and shopping areas - chao chao gyoza, Mughal. -only hotel I’ve ever been to with humidifiers in every room -temperature controlled shower! -toilet seat warmer in every room -old world charm with hotel keys not key cards -very close to Nishiki market -can borrow umbrellas to go anywhere -very hospitable! Will stay here again in a heartbeat! FANTASTIC! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!

A lovely, big room greeted us on arrival. The T.V. was similarly generous and the bathroom was large with a bath and separate shower. The shower itself was excellent. Breakfast was a bit mixed - the food was very good but the hot drinks were disappointing.

This hotel is located in the North Eastern side of the city, adjacent to Gion, but the other side of the river. The hotel itself is 17 floors, so is one of the larger buildings in the area. We have stayed here before and it was noticeable that a number of other hotel chains have sprung up in the vicinity since our last visit. Competition is always good, but the Okura still seemed to be busy. The room we were given was comfortable enough, but being located on the northern side and on the 11th floor we were subjected to early evening noise (shouting) from the adjacent streets. I would suggest asking for a room on a higher floor if one is available. Breakfast was on the 17th floor and consisted of mixed western and local buffet breakfast. All very functional and tasty. The staff were all very polite and all in all we had an enjoyable stay.

The staff take your case and check in was efficient. The main lobby has an old colonial feel. The room have a traditional key which is unusual these days. The elevators and room numbering can be confusing at first as they put an unnecessary number in front of the room number. The rooms are large and well-arranged, but no case stand so unfortunately you have to use the sofa and furniture for our cases. The bathroom was a good size and the shower was great for a change. Comfortable beds and the best pillows in Japan. The Chinese restaurant on the basement floor was so expensive we eat at a nice French restaurant opposite. Which was still expensive but great food.

We booked in here for four nights. We were surprised to receive a room that was so small that one of us nearest the wall had no side table and had to crawl over to the other side to get out of bed. This was aggravating and detracted from what was otherwise a quality hotel. It is very well situated in the city, close to all facilities. Service from the staff was first class and excellent access to the train station for all stations. In booking for four nights we thought we should have had a better room. In hindsight we should have complained but that is not our nature.

Smart, spotlessly clean, well situated. The breakfast buffet is terrific, as wide ranging as one might imagine and the staff are immaculately presented and very helpful. My only slight quibble is that the concierge were not very imaginative in suggesting places to visit; for that purpose, it seems more productive to go to the Tourist Information office which is a few minutes walk away. Also, given the price one pays, it is a little galling to be charged for every extra sachet of coffee and creamer over and above those presented on first arrival.
