My wife and I stayed at Okura for two nights. The hotel is well situated for exploring Kyoto. Our room was small and in need of an update. Especially the bathrooms and extraordinarily small TV. However, I was late in booking the hotel, and had to settle for a small low category room. I was shocked when I walked in the room and saw the view from the room. The view was gorgeous, I was not expecting this type of view. The service was very good throughout the hotel. Breakfast had another beautiful view but the tables and room were in need of an update. It was nice to be surrounded by traditional Japanese culture. Overall, I would highly recommend this hotel, and will return. If you can afford it, book a higher end room.

This is an excellent centrally-located hotel convenient for exploring Kyoto. The breakfast buffet at the top of the hotel commanded superb views of the city and provided a very good range of food. I did not eat at the hotel in the evenings, but instead went round the corner to the Irish bar, which is lovely. There are also many other restaurants within a short walk from the hotel.

Situated between City Hall and the Kamo River, Hotel Okura Kyoto is centrally located to shopping, restaurants and attractions. We stayed 2 nights in a large standard at $178 per night with a sumptuous breakfast. Though it doesn't have an onsen, the deep tub allowed a similar experience. There was a demonstration next door in front of City Hall. I was looking for a 7-ll, Family Mart, or Lawson's where I could find early morning coffee. This is a top choice if staying in central Kyoto.

This is a lovely hotel with outstanding customer service. From the front desk staff to the doormen, everyone was helpful and friendly. It is well located and is an easy walk - or bus/subway ride - to all of the sights. We thoroughly enjoyed our 2-night stay and would stay here again without hesitation.

First class Hotel, charming staff (Japan is a most courteous country) and a most helpful and efficient concierge desk. If you're visiting Tokyo, take a couple of days to see Kyoto - and go white water rafting as well.

When I stayed at the Okura towards the end of last year, I hadn't been there since 2014. This time I was back within 5 months! It's a classy place in the perfect location. Once again I had a "Superior Twin Room with River View" which was very spacious and well-appointed, containing everything I needed for comfort and convenience, and the wide view of the city, river glimpses and the mountains was such a pleasure. I appreciated the two welcoming origami cranes on the table along with a graphic showing the names of landmarks and peaks. This time I had breakfast included in my three-night booking, and the breakfasts were superb, the best I had in the 5.5 weeks I spent in Japan. It's a predetermined set rather than a buffet, with a choice of rice or porridge. Everything was absolutely delicious and so elegantly presented. As a bonus, the breakfast room looks out on a lovely garden. The room service dinners were also very good. Hotel staff are always attentive and ready to help with whatever. There is a subway station directly below the hotel, and many shops and eateries in that area as well as in the immediate surrounds. It's a quick stroll to the river, and the main sights of Gion and Higashiyama are within walking distance. Thank you! I hope to be back in 2024.

We had a wonderful time staying at Hotel Okura Kyoto. The rooms are American size - huge for Japanese standards! We had a nice view of the mountains. Our room was on the 9th floor and could look down on the beautiful glasswork of the 7th floor in the middle of the courtyard. The staff were all very polite and helpful, gave us many useful directions. The shuttle to Kyoto station was convenient. Yes the pool is for 18 years and older which was a disappointment for my kids, but I can understand the logic behind it. We had the breakfast buffet once and it was good. We also tried a noodle restaurant in the basement level of the hotel, and it was a delight. The location was excellent. All the restaurants and shops were at our doorstep. Overall, we’d definitely stay here again. Thank you Hotel Okura!

Nicest staff ever. Front desk was so attentive and friendly. Great location. Buckwheat pillows were hilarious. Attached to a cute underground mall. I apparently need to write more characters and now even more characters.

It is really unfortunate to write this review on my first night in Japan. I had booked another hotel, but then selected this one because it had a gym and both myself and my husband needed to use the treadmill, given the temperature outside is above 30 degrees centigrades. We were told by the hotel that we need to pay 3,300 Yen per day per person to use it. We had booked via Booking.com and there is no mention in the first place where the gym appears among the facilities that there would be an additional charge. You have to dig into the pages to find this mentioned. We travel for work and pleasure all over the world, and have never been charged to use the gym in a hotel that lists this among their facilities. I recommend you really check carefully when you book a hotel in Japan, something we should have done much better. The hotel is more expensive than others in their range, and quite dated. We would have happily stayed given our compromise, but this has made it a reason not to return. And worse, even when the manager saw the discrepancy between the different pages of Booking.com did not make a single move to help with this, although we explained we are not interested in the pool, the sauna or anything else in their centre. Would certainly not return.

Fantastic location, super convenient to the subway, great breakfast spread (although some simple herbal tea and more juice options would be a good addition). We really loved the Chippendale bar for drinks - so cosy and the barmen provided fantastic service and cocktails. Although the hotel itself is a bit dated, we would definitely stay again.
