After a long day of travelling, my friend and I were so happy to see that this hotel was directly in front of the Kyoto station. The staff were incredibly helpful despite not being able to speak english fully. The rooms were a nice size and the bathroom was authentic Japanese style. There was plenty of space for our bags,...

Very small room but is clean. This is considered standard size room for hotel in Kyoto within this price range and centrally located. We didn't spend much time in the room so we don't mind that. If you are looking for a convenient hotel for short stay, is this the one. The hotel just opposite Kyoto station and bus station...

Couldn't ask for a better hotel in Kyoto... definitely staying there again when I return to Kyoto! The only thing that didn't wow me was the room size, but really, with so many things to do in Kyoto, you shouldn't spend much time in your room anyway. Bed was very comfortable, toilet size was reasonable, the staff was extremely friendly...

As other reviewers have confirmed, this is a greatly located hotel just north of Kyoto train station. Staff friendly, though their English skills were a bit limited. Room standard, but no view. We got a room on the third floor at first, and the window did not even open. So we changed to the 6th floor, and we got at...

This hotel was easily the best, and the best value, that we stayed at in our 2 weeks in Japan in May 2013. You couldn't get a handier location opposite the JR station and around the corner from a great supermarket where you can buy very cheap, fresh and amazing sushi etc (just ask hotel staff for directions). Our room...

To put it simply, this hotel has everything I look for when traveling! It's clean, smoke-free, comfortable, has free wi-fi, and the staff are great. I stayed in a small single room for five nights, and had not a single complaint. The staff speak excellent English and are very helpful if you ever need anything. The location is of course...

Location is awsome. Just across the street from the main JR station. You can just get off the train, unload your baggages, load your batteries and start sightseeing. (No extra street noise in the room by the way). Hotel is not very remarkable itself, but a decent, modernly equipped and perfectly clean place. The staff is super friendly, you get...

We had a 5 day trip from Tokyo to Kyoto, booked through japanican.com. A very smooth operation in all regards - the Bullet train both ways and 4 nights in a twin room at the Hokke Club. A great location just out of the northern entrance of the station - right across from the bus area, The hotel is almost...

I booked this hotel for a last-minute vacation with little knowledge of Kyoto. When we arrived, first pleasant surprise was that it was literally across the street from Kyoto Station. Very convenient! The staff was very polite and greeted us warmly. Our room was spotless clean and very cozy. This is really all you need. No frills, but lovely and very...

This hotel has an excellent location just opposite the railway station as well as the bus station which makes it very easy for travelling. The staff are very polite. The rooms are small but very clean. Only thing is the check in is at 3 pm so be sure you have everything chalked out. We reached there at 10 in...

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighborhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
