Great location, but beware the reviews around the hard beds are not an exaggeration. They are insanely hard, really difficult to sleep on. Rooms are typically tiny as per most Japanese hotels. Room was clean.

This hotel is simply for local visitors. Everything in the room is in Japanese and the rooms are tiny. I had to duck to get in the room. The beds are like stone and the air conditioning only blows hit air. We were told to open a window if we were hot - great solution when the hotel is based...

Avoid this hotel if you can. We were supposed to stay here for four nights, and we ended leaving after the first night. We were given a smoking room, despite clearly asking for a non-smoking one. When we complained (you can smell the cigarettes as soon as the elevator opens), we were told that there were no other available rooms...

This hotel was the first only only time I experienced bad service in Japan. The rooms are just big enough for a tiny and very uncomfortable hard bed. Bathroom tiny. Horrible place to stay and I would honestly say don't stay there, there are many others far far better value.

Small room as expected, fine for one person, but i wouldn't recommend for 2 people to share. Mouldy bathroom was quite gross. The small Fridge smelt awful, i guess cos they turn it off a lot, but i tried putting food in it, but then couldn't eat it due to the general smell of the fridge. Bed was fine, pillows...

I had a few days to myself in Japan recently and visited Kyoto. As my time was limited, I stayed near the station at the APA. I had a Single room which was tiny, but as arrived late and left early it was perfect for my needs. I was surprise how well it actually meet my needs. A 3/4 bed,...

APA kyoto is an atrocious place to stay. Room 709 The bed was like something pulled out of a rubbish dump, both of them. I ended up getting dressed to sleep as i started to itch UGH - it was just a plywood board basically . I did not get to sleep until 0124am due heavy traffic and other noise...

This hotel is an usual Japanese style business hotel, but there is a large public bath in hotel. The room size is small, about 10m^2 for a single room. The bath in the room is also compact, that is, Japanese typical business hotel style. The price is reasonable in Kyoto, I think. If you come to Kyoto as a business...

All the amenities you need for a pleasant stay. Beds are spotless, with firm yet comfortable wide mattresses even in single rooms. Location is close enough to bus and trains, so you can base yourself here and take in the town's tourist attractions without hassles. Convenience store right beside the hotel so it's hard to beat. No views, but reaching...

- Good location and able to access JR train within 5 minutes by walk. - Easy to find some food and many supermarkets nearby. - Building and room are quite old. - Able to leave baggage when travelling around.

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighborhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
