The Brighton was a very high class hotel and represented excellent value for the price. It was a little way out of the centre of Kyoto, but the hotel ran a shuttle bus to the subway station every 20 mins.10 mins from the Imperial Palace.Rooms spacious, modern, clean and well supplied. As with most Japanese Hotels meal prices were very high and... this hotel is away from the main centre but is worth it. The staff are fantastic and extremely helpful. The rooms are clean, large and modern. the pool is great when you just want to relax, although it does cost around £8 per day to use which I felt was rather steep as sometimes you just want to go for... We've been in Brighton Hotel for 7 nights during the last week of August. I made direct on-line reservation with the hotel and although our party was not a standard one, all communication and our kids oriented requirements went smoothly attended. We traveled with young kids -3 and 6.Our little girl, while being petite, still sleeps in a baby cot... More

This is one of the nicest hotels I have ever stayed in. The restaurants and bars were incredible, the room was incredible. The service was excellent. The rooms were clean. I typically stay in places cheaper than this, but Kyoto is my favorite destination in the world, so I figured I would splurge for the weekend. I treated myself and... More

This hotel is just fabulous. The service is impeccable as is the cleanliness. There are a few good English speakers on staff so you can always communicate with reception. Let em reiterate just how clean this place is! They provide everything for you, toothbrushes to laundry detergent. There are always taxis outside and a very helpful concierge who will tell... More

Don't be put off for the distance to main tourist areas in Kyoto; the Brighton more than makes up for this, with huge rooms (for Japanese standards), beautiful furniture, comfortable beds and really luxurious bathrooms. I asked for a bike rental (a great option in Kyoto) and they brought me a bike to the hotel, which I rented for the... More

Beautiful hotel. Large, wonderful bed / sitting room. Most polite and eager service. They do offer frequent shuttle service to the subway station, and cabs are always at the ready. This is a roomy, luxurious place. Got a great rate through Expedia.Tea fixings in the room and newspapers, as all Japanese hotels offered. No free extras in hotels such as... More

We stayed at the Kyoto Brighton Hotel for 5 nights in summer 2009. It was an absolutely beautiful hotel with excellent service. Everybody -- from the front desk staff, to the bell staff, to the door staff and housekeeping -- was very friendly, polite and welcoming. This is a fairly 'western' hotel, with regular beds and amenities. The room was... More

First comment, there are two Brighton hotels in Kyoto. The one that I am reviewing is the new one located not very far from the imperial Palace. There is a second Brighton Hotel in Kyoto (located near the railway station) dating from the 80s. This hotel is a real gem. The rooms are absolutely first class with all the amenities... More

We reserved at Brighton because of good reviews and relatively large rooms for a Japanese hotel. Generally the hotel lived up to expectations. The lobby is a huge, somewhat dated, interior courtyard style lobby with lots of marble. Rooms are spacious and clean. The decor is generally dated and slightly worn, but everything is clean and in good condition. Bathrooms... More

Staying in Nishijin District

Neighborhood Profile
Nishijin District
A district with a long textile heritage, ancient Kyoto is still alive in the Nishijin District. Studded with its weaving factories, tea houses, and onsen, the neighborhood is charming and peaceful with a self-possessed air. Less traveled than other parts of the city, it is a district where you can take it at your own pace. Visitors can explore the many weaving and cloth houses, the free kimono shows, and the many shops selling traditional clothing and goods. Showcasing architecture with sloping roofs and wooden reliefs dating to decades past, the streets in the Nishijin District transport you back in time, making them a joy to wander.
