This place has a homey feel which many hotels in Japan lack. The location is very central. The room was well appointed and comfortable and it was nice to be able to open the window/door onto the shared balcony (only openable a certain distance so that you can't actually go out.) The surrounding neighbourhoods are well worth exploring for an...

I had the pleasure of visiting Kyoto at the end of October and stayed here with friends. Arrived to Kyoto via the bullet train and was pleasantly surprised to find out that my hotel was directly across from the station. This made it very easy to branch out from here. There is a bus station here as well, in addition...

This hotel was very handy to the Kyoto Train Station....if you find the Ibis across the road...just go to the right of it...and the hotel is along the road about 100 meters... We were a little early to check in so spent a couple of hours walking around the train station....and the HUGE shopping centre to the right of the...

Recently stayed 3 nights at this hotel. Finding the hotel on arriving at Kyoto Station was a bit of a challenge. Especially with having to lug around luggages and arriving in the late afternoon. This hotel is not actually directly accross the station. you have to turn right as you exit out of the Hajiro West Exit and walk about...

If you plan to embark on day tours offered by Japanican, New Miyako Hotel is the place to stay. It is the central pick-up location, and that could save some hassle in the morning. Even on your own, the location is just perfect - directly opposite Kyoto Station.

Stayed at this hotel for 3 nights. Terrific location opposite the Kyoto rail station. This area has lots of shops and cafés. There was also a large shopping centre in a street on the left of the hotel and a coin laundromat at the end of the street to the right of the hotel. Room is very clean, quite spacious...

This hotel is a little pricey, maybe because we made a late booking and it was peak time. However it is a really big and very clean hotel with many wings ,a garden for viewing and right across the JR station. It is just a few mins walk from the station on the side of the Kyoto Tower. Rooms are spacious. Our room even...

I was pleasantly surprised with my room at this hotel, since I was booked into the South Tower by my travel tour agent. I had read reviews to avoid the South Tower, since those rooms had not been renovated. My room was fine, good solid bed, well-arranged bathroom, good lighting. I never used the Tv, but it was there. Wifi...

Small rooms even on the "premier" floors. Temperature in the room was always on the warm side no matter what we do with the A/C to make it more comfortable. The window will only open about 4 inches so that didn't help. Location is across the street from the Kyoto station. If you can get a room for around 10,000...

Staying in Southern Kyoto

Neighborhood Profile
Southern Kyoto
Southern Kyoto has a reserved air. Though the Fushimi Inari Shrine is one of Kyoto's major tourist attractions, the surrounding nature, parks, gardens, temples, and shrines provide less-visited spaces for strolling and reflection. The Fushimi Inari Shrine itself is made up of 32,000 sub-shrines, and the mountain they are dotted across beckons hikers, picnickers, and lovers of the outdoors. Many of the mountain's off-set paths aren't frequented by tourists, and the mountain's serenity can be enjoyed at a leisurely pace. Southern Kyoto is the place to enjoy being outside, and to pay your respects to the ancient architecture and gods of the land that are celebrated here.
