I stayed in Hotel ANA for 3 nights in May 08. It was my fourth trip to Kyoto. I had stayed twice in hotel Hearton, and once in hotel Gimmond. Those three hotels are in the same price range but the quality I got at...More
ANA Hotel Kyoto is a 3.5 star hotel trying to act like a 5 star. Nice lobby, with staff wearing kimonos. The rooms were not that good. The carpets were filthy and the bathroom was small and full of advertisements.
The prices in the hotel...More
We have just returned from our 3rd visit to Japan and our 3rd stay in ANA Hotel in Kyoto, and once again, it did not disappoint. Arriving a little jet-lagged into Kyoto Station, just off the shinkansen from Tokyo, it's very nice to hop onto...More
We booked the ANA as we had Priority card points to use and overall were satisfied with our stay, although I would agree with most of the other posts below.
You have to remember what you are booking here- its not a boutique hotel, its...More
Ok, not newly built (surely not), nor has won any decoration prize (god, no!), so those looking for luxurious and contemporary Japanese design will hit big deception. This said, the ANA does not charge rocket price (12.000 weekdays and 14.000 weekends for 2 in a...More

Kyoto Prefecture >
City Center / Kawaramachi / Karasuma / Shijo Omiya
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of
local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.
