Perfectly located close to Kawaramachi this hostel offers everything you could ask for. Clean, very well maintained facilities, cozy 'sleeping caves' as we called them and super friendly staff. The Kimono dorm was visually very appealing, but I ultimately liked the standard dormitory better.

Situated a five minute walk away from downtown Kyoto (Shijo Dori), staying at this hostel was comfortable and convenient. I stayed in a 6 bed female dorm which had its own shower and toilet. The beds itself were enclosed with drawers, a reading light and a general light built into the capsule structure around the bed. The hostel has laundry... More

This place was awesome. I stayed here during Christmas last year and while I was originally supposed to stay here for a couple days, I extended a couple more due to how great this hostel was. Usually the crowd staying at the hostel make up the atmosphere, but here it was mainly due to the staff. Everyone was extremely friendly... More

Great hostel. The location is a bit further from the main tourist attractions but it's but a 10-15 minute walk to Nishiki market and the Gion district. I stayed in the 18 bed dorm room with about 7-8 people that night. Because of the solid walls between bunks (above and next to), I barely heard a thing. Great design! The... More

Fantastic hostel situated in a crowded street. The location is really good. The hostel is clean and in my room there was a big bathroom. Nice and helpful staff. In the top there is a terrace and a kitchen. Fantastic option to discover Kyoto.

I had an absolutely fantastic time in Kyoto, largely because of the atmosphere in this hostel. The staff were very laid-back and helpful, and the bar in the basement was perfect for meeting other travellers. The rooms were great, with the capsules offering that extra bit of privacy. I wouldn't even consider staying anywhere else in Kyoto if (when) I... More

I was in Kyoto for a couple of days, on my own, and I luckily stumbled upon this amazing hostel. The dorms have rows of bunk beds, each with a sliding door for privacy. I only needed this as a place to sleep and charge my phone, and it was perfect. The facilities are kept very clean, the staff are... More

Was pretty great to sleep in a capsulated bed in a dorm, it just gives you that little bit more privacy! The staff were very friendly and helpful, the place is clean and has great facilities including a bar! It is also quite central to everything in Kyoto

Staying in Shinkyogoku Shopping District

Neighborhood Profile
Shinkyogoku Shopping District
Those who delight in shopping and cuisine will find themselves at home in Shinkyogoku. Lauded and visited by locals for its Nishiki Market, where baskets of fragrant spices, dried fish, and just-fried foods are piled high along the snaking streets of its enclosed outdoor shopping spaces, Shinkyogoku is not only a hub for fresh fare, but also for fast fashion fixes. Trends-in-the-making can be spotted in the tall windows of several one-of-a-kind stores featuring local labels and modish boutiques. Arcades, outdoor concert spaces, mega department stores, and small, enchanting cafes have sprung up to accommodate the increasing traffic. Whether looking for souvenirs and kitsch on Shinkyogoku Street, or scoping out the massive food court and restaurant floor at Takashimaya Department store, there's something for every wallet or purse, and a buyer for every item.
