In July this year, I with my classmates from the University of Macao went to Kyoto. This hotel is our home for 4 days. From the outside to look at this hotel, is round, like an egg that look very cute. Into the inside, you can feel the warm greetings of the Japanese, they will be greeted with a smile.... More

I'm used to staying at hostels. However, staying at this hostel was not a good experience. As no private room was available I was staying in the 14 bed mixed dorm with my boyfriend. The room was very smelly. When I asked the staff to change the room I was told there was no spare room. Also, the mattress was... More

This hostel is located in the center near the Nishiki food market. The beds are good and there is a privacy capsule like. The staff is amazing and helps in any question. They have good maps and advices about anyway you want to go. There are a lot of bus lines and places to eat around the hostel. It is... More

I stayed in this hostel for 3 nights as a solo traveller and it was brilliant. The hostel has a really good atmosphere which is aided by the bar having a happy hour. The staff were really friendly. The facilities were clean and plentiful. It is in a good location and easy to find. The kitchen has everything you need,... More

Firstly, the hostel is absolutely fantastic. Clean, wonderful bathroom facilities, affordable laundry and a spacious open kitchen. The wifi is quick and reaches the capsules, which themselves are fantastic (don't think I had a better few nights sleep travelling than here). Most importantly, the staff are wonderful. I lost my phone the evening before we checked out, and with their... More

Perfectly located close to Kawaramachi this hostel offers everything you could ask for. Clean, very well maintained facilities, cozy 'sleeping caves' as we called them and super friendly staff. The Kimono dorm was visually very appealing, but I ultimately liked the standard dormitory better.

Situated a five minute walk away from downtown Kyoto (Shijo Dori), staying at this hostel was comfortable and convenient. I stayed in a 6 bed female dorm which had its own shower and toilet. The beds itself were enclosed with drawers, a reading light and a general light built into the capsule structure around the bed. The hostel has laundry... More

This place was awesome. I stayed here during Christmas last year and while I was originally supposed to stay here for a couple days, I extended a couple more due to how great this hostel was. Usually the crowd staying at the hostel make up the atmosphere, but here it was mainly due to the staff. Everyone was extremely friendly... More

Great hostel. The location is a bit further from the main tourist attractions but it's but a 10-15 minute walk to Nishiki market and the Gion district. I stayed in the 18 bed dorm room with about 7-8 people that night. Because of the solid walls between bunks (above and next to), I barely heard a thing. Great design! The... More

Staying in Shinkyogoku Shopping District

Neighborhood Profile
Shinkyogoku Shopping District
Those who delight in shopping and cuisine will find themselves at home in Shinkyogoku. Lauded and visited by locals for its Nishiki Market, where baskets of fragrant spices, dried fish, and just-fried foods are piled high along the snaking streets of its enclosed outdoor shopping spaces, Shinkyogoku is not only a hub for fresh fare, but also for fast fashion fixes. Trends-in-the-making can be spotted in the tall windows of several one-of-a-kind stores featuring local labels and modish boutiques. Arcades, outdoor concert spaces, mega department stores, and small, enchanting cafes have sprung up to accommodate the increasing traffic. Whether looking for souvenirs and kitsch on Shinkyogoku Street, or scoping out the massive food court and restaurant floor at Takashimaya Department store, there's something for every wallet or purse, and a buyer for every item.
