Thought the location of the hotel is a little bit far off from town centre, but just a short walk, there is a bus stop and got buses go to some famous places such as Tofukuji Temple, Kiyomizu dera, etc. But I only found out this by myself at end of my stay, the front desk lady didn't tell me... This is a wonderful modern hotel located in a quiet residential neighborhood to the south of Kyoto Station. From the outside and on entering it looks less like a hotel than an avant-garde art gallery (the art hanging in the rooms are for sale). The photos shown on the online booking site were realistic and truthful. Room furnishing, decor and... More

At the hotel lobby you are surrounded by modern art pieces. There is also a dining area which serves excellent Western breakfast and a bar for some late-night drinks. Room is modern in the Japanese style where things are floor level, utilitarian and compact. Good value for money. There are buses to town area about 10mins walk away. Area is... More

A little bit long from the main station. Once you go inside the room, you can feel the simple Japanese style. So clean, so tidy and you simply want to stay inside the room for a whole day. The staff are very helpful and English communication is not a problem.

Stayed here for 2 nights in October, we had a twin room with a garden-loved the space, the design and all the amenities.. I believe the other rooms are considerably smaller so go for the garden one if you can.. The tv stretching along the whole wall was particularly impressive, as was a wooden bath.. Some nice art pieces by... More

Stayed with Anteroom from 4 Oct to 7 Oct 2016. Checked in smoothly at 2PM (Official timing 3PM). Room checked in 308. It's the last room near the emergency exit. It was a Single. Bathroom was clean and tiny but it's understandable that Japan has tiny room. The water pressure was great. Temperature of the water was sensitive to my... More

For our three nights in Kyoto, we opted to stay at Hotel Anteroom and found the service, room, and overall decor a welcome change from the all to common Japanese business hotel. Located south of Kyoto station, it was an approx. 15 minute walk from the JR station towards a quieter part of Kyoto. We had sent our luggage ahead... More

I really liked the hotel. Stayed in single room. It was great value for the price. I also tried the breakfast, again good value for the price. Hotel was clean, do not get mislead by the renovated look. The art pieces exhibited in the common areas were also very tasteful.

Staying in Southern Kyoto

Neighborhood Profile
Southern Kyoto
Southern Kyoto has a reserved air. Though the Fushimi Inari Shrine is one of Kyoto's major tourist attractions, the surrounding nature, parks, gardens, temples, and shrines provide less-visited spaces for strolling and reflection. The Fushimi Inari Shrine itself is made up of 32,000 sub-shrines, and the mountain they are dotted across beckons hikers, picnickers, and lovers of the outdoors. Many of the mountain's off-set paths aren't frequented by tourists, and the mountain's serenity can be enjoyed at a leisurely pace. Southern Kyoto is the place to enjoy being outside, and to pay your respects to the ancient architecture and gods of the land that are celebrated here.
