Stayed for 3 nights. Had to stay in a twin room as all doubles were booked. Great location to shops and restaurants. Room spacious with all necessary amenities (except black tea but this seems to be unanimous across Japan). Breakfast from 7am had predominantly Jap cuisine but still enough Western choices compared to other Japanese hotels. Overall I would recommend.

Some reviewers have complained about room size. The room we were given was quite spacious. Although we didn't appreciate it when we first walked to the hotel from the subway, the location is terrific. Lots of good restaurants and bakeries nearby. Easy walk to some very picturesque parts of town. The hotel's staff was friendly and helpful.

Good hotel, but very small rooms - we had to rearrange things a bit to put one suitcase on the desk, and another one underneath. No cabinets to put clothes in. Excellent location near lively part of the city. Very well accessible with bus network, but somewhat less convenient with subway (only limited available in Kyoto). Lots of restaurants in... More

A lovely hotel only a minutes walk to the shopping areas where you will find lots of quaint shops and eating places. The main shopping area is under cover which is perfect for those rainy days. It is also just a short walk to the nearest train station. The room was a standard with tea coffee making and a refrigerator.... More

We stayed 4 nights and were very pleased with the hotel. The staff was very kind and helpful, the hotel location is excellent close to restaurants, attractions, transport, shopping,... The was hotel very clean with everything one needs and more, the only minus comes from the small size of the room. Our sons' room (two beds) was slightly bigger than... More

Rooms, like most in Japan are quite small but spotlessly clean & complete with all facilities. The breakfast included a huge selection of Japanese & Western foods. The staff at Reception were attentive & always helpful

I loved staying at Hotel Vista! Its the perfect location in Kyoto, I loved being walking distance from shopping, Gion, and the train station. The staff was incredibly sweet and helpful. The room was clean and comfortable. I didn't mind the window because we were barely in the room. The breakfast was okay, it was mostly Japanese food, so I... More

We loved this hotel. Great location...market, taxis, restaurants nearby. Staff are very efficient...storing luggage before and after our stay ..pleasant too. Rooms, while small are well designed and comfortable. Price was good for Kyoto in the location. We would stay here again in a heartbeat.

We stayed here for four nights while exploring Kyoto and beyond. The hotel is conveniently located just off of the main street (Kawaramachi-dori) and was super easy to find. The front desk staff was friendly and pleasant. They were able to speak good English, always greeted us as we were coming or going, and recommended some yummy ramen spots. Being... More

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights in early July . Our 2 double rooms are a bit small by American standard but sufficient for our family. Very good and thorough housekeeping services and hotel staff speak English rather well had made our stay more pleasant than we anticipated. One thing I can not emphasize enough is the fantastic... Staying in Shinkyogoku Shopping District

Neighborhood Profile
Shinkyogoku Shopping District
Those who delight in shopping and cuisine will find themselves at home in Shinkyogoku. Lauded and visited by locals for its Nishiki Market, where baskets of fragrant spices, dried fish, and just-fried foods are piled high along the snaking streets of its enclosed outdoor shopping spaces, Shinkyogoku is not only a hub for fresh fare, but also for fast fashion fixes. Trends-in-the-making can be spotted in the tall windows of several one-of-a-kind stores featuring local labels and modish boutiques. Arcades, outdoor concert spaces, mega department stores, and small, enchanting cafes have sprung up to accommodate the increasing traffic. Whether looking for souvenirs and kitsch on Shinkyogoku Street, or scoping out the massive food court and restaurant floor at Takashimaya Department store, there's something for every wallet or purse, and a buyer for every item.
