wonderful hotel! perfect mix of traditional and modern. I loved the aesthetics of the hotel, the room set up, hibiki bathtub which was the star of our stay. It was so relaxing to soak in a hot bath after a long day of walking. Customer service was incredible and outstanding. highly recommend!

Hotel's Favorite
We stayed here as part of our new years trip and had a lovely experience. The staff is super friendly and helpful and the premises have a really nice charm with rooms that strongly references a rich heritage. It’s situated one stop away between the main JR station and the part of town with great food and shops when using the north-south subway which has a station close by. The temple grounds next door are frequently overlooked as they are not deemed a heritage site (yet) but well worth a visit. We discovered a lovely view upon it behind the screens right from our room. I highly recommend this hotel.

We had three days in Kanra. The rooms are indeed strongly traditional with Tatami mats and wooden floors and screens. In our bathroom he had both Square and round baths made of wood (cycad) which were beautiful if a little impractical (the round one took the best part of 45 minutes to fill). The shower was good and double sinks made the bathroom usable for a family. There was an elevated tatami area in our suite (511) which was pretty but useless owning to no furniture suites to westerners being in there. We considered moving our mattress there are the suite room had twin beds pushed together which was less than ideal when sharing with a kid. The TV came with an Amazon Firestick so our daughter was able to get only Netflix and Prime. The fridge was stocked with complementary water and sake daily: nice touch. We were in the main building (not annex) and so were on the main road. Decent curtains eliminated the road noise but these are hidden behind the traditional wooden screens. Breakfast was an odd affair, with lots of food but little to eat. I’d recommend the hotel undertake a review of what guests would prefer to eat. Seriously there was loads of stuff, but it is a bit of a struggle to find something to eat. On balance we did enjoy our time here. Some small improvements would make it a great place.

Location about 15 minutes walk from Kyoto station. Rooms are luxurious and love how each room on the floor in the maim building had its own entry like it was a small village. Breakfast options were limited and could be better for the price point. Beds were comfortable and would stay again.

A dream stay at the Hotel Kanra Kyoto! The hotel is an easy walk from the Kyoto Station and is scenically located at the corner of an enormous temple. We booked 4 rooms and each was beautiful and serene and such a pleasure to be in. Everything was clean and well cared for and breakfast was a mix of western and Japanese buffet and had something appealing for all 8 friends traveling together. The front desk helped us with some dining options and reservations for dinner and sent us to a most delicious soba lunch nearby for a late lunch when we arrived. Price was very moderate for the level of the rooms and service. I would not hesitate to recommed the hotel and hope return there someday to continue exploring beautiful Kyoto.

A very attractive minimalist aesthetic but some design issues from a travelers perspective, however this is a subjective issue. The rooms are a good size but somewhat noisy during the day if facing the main road. It is reasonably conventient for Kyoto station and a local subway but away from the busy tourist areas of Pontocho and Gion (they are a 30+ minute walk). I would consider staying again but more likely to consider somewhere closer to the more active evening areas, eg around Pontocho.

Definitely one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. Rooms are very spacious and modern. The location is absolutely perfect as you are near the station and Gion but it is a peaceful area. The staff are so nice and helpful. Ask their recommendations for restaurants and bars cause every recommendation they gave us was an absolute winner. The breakfast buffet is fantastic. And you can borrow electric bikes for free! These where great for whizzing around the local attractions. Will definitely return!

This is a beautiful hotel very conveniently located in walking distance to the Kyoto train station. Our room was very large with a huge bathroom (double sinks and gigantic bathtub) and nice seating area outside the bedroom area. The staff was extremely helpful with any questions or suggestions. They all speak English well which helped us. There is coffee available in the lobby. While there are restaurants onsite we didn’t eat there so I can’t comment. It would be nice if they had a bar. The hotel was in walking distance from 3 of our favorite dining experiences in Kyoto - Ginjo-Ramen Kubota (ramen shop), Kashin (Kaiseki) and Kura Kura (Izakaya).

Ideal central location close to the train station. Decor was modern and luxurious. The rooms were of decent size. Staff was friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet has everything you could want, both western and japanese elements. The hotel café had a great selection of beers.

Highly courteous and efficient staff with lovely rooms trying to add Japanese culture into very comfortable rooms. A couple of stops from the centre but right on a tube station and a 10 minute walk from the main station.
