Neighborhood
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.

If you are anything like me, you weigh many things when looking at hotels. Location, room size, staff, value, it can all be hard to gauge. I put a lot of pressure on myself when looking into where to stay in Kyoto for my honeymoon trip to Japan. One of 5 hotel stays for our trip,

Stayed at Kanra for four nights whilst in Kyoto. The Hotel is just beautiful and the staff are simply excellent. Helpful and friendly, they were a delight to interact with. We stayed in a delux twin room in the main building. It was a good size and had an awesome cedar tub.

We stayed here for 3 nights and aside from a room change after an hour (the rooms fronting on the main street which is quite busy were very noisy) it was delightful. It was too bad that no other deluxe rooms were available for us but fortunately the regular rooms are also very b

I am trying to figure out the most affordable accommodation option at this hotel for a family of 4 (2 adults + 2 teens). We are fine with adding a futon on the floor rather than spending a fortune on a suite if that is a possibility? The room descriptions are rather confusing with "twin" accommodation but not specifying size of beds? Any suggestions are appreciated!
We stayed in a Twin Annexe room (annexe is the original building) Two beds were enormous, side by side with little/no gap. We both slept in one, easily a large double size. So depending on your teens you may not even need a futon, but that would be set up in the tatami seating area at one end of the room. Plenty of space! Hotel website states bed sizes as 1300-1400mm width

Hello, If I am looking for the most quiet area, non adjoining rooms, should I book annex or main building
We LOVED the main building— try for the back of the building— favorite hotel in Japan! Try the tofu lasagna for dinner! Sublime

Hi, appreciate if someone could share info - Our flight ETD Kansai 9:55 am, need to check in by 8 am, what time we need to leave hotel Kanra and what is the best way ? Thanks in advance.
You can catch a shuttle bus from Kyoto station. Buy your tic in advance to secure your seat. I think it takes one half to 2 hours to get to Kansai airport from Kyoto. JAPANESE public transport is very punctual and efficient. Your hotel will be best able to advise u on the best time to depart from Kyoto to Kansai airport.
