We stayed in Kyoto for 2 nights. It is a little bit away from Kyoto station (like 20-25 min walk) but you always can take a bus (we did). Our room was big, neat, clean and tidy, and had a good rest after travelling from Tokyo. Staff were all smiles and tried their best to be helpful, however they don't... More

I booked room online for one night on Oct 28 and tried to cancel the booking one week later (before deadline of free cancellation). However the website had errors and couldn't cancel. I tried to call the hotel but the phone number provided by the website is incorrect. Eventually, hotel still charged me one night cost even though I didn't... More

Genuine japanese hospitality, clean and peaceful room, complete amenities, nice bed, everything is nice in this place and the value for money is really one thing to consider and you can find it here! Best for solo travellers and with family! Everything is good! Will definitely return to this place!

Stayed two nights here, staff very friendly . It's a little bit out of the main Kyoto area and not that easily accessible to transport but once you get your bearings it's fine. Room is a nice size compared to the Japanese normal. Also includes a safe which came in handy. Nice night view of Kyoto tower from window. Would... More

The hotel is clean and no frills Toyoko-Inn standard. This one does not have free coffee and we had issues with the wifi on our floor. Otherwise the personnel are friendly and helpful and the room was clean and quiet. They should have translations for the A/C remote control in all Toyoko-Inns.

As others have mentioned, the staff here are particularly nice, breakfast better than usual for Toyoko Inn and common areas nice and bright. Room the usual Toyoko Inn. As one reviewer below has noted, Toyoko Inns are designed for the Japanese business traveller and have made few concessions to their increasing popularity as an economical place to stay in Japan.... I have stayed at Toyoko inn on gojo karasuma and Shijo karasuma before. Gojo omiya location is definitely not as convenient as the 2 mentioned above. Staff was very friendly. I stayed on 3 different room types: double, single and deluxe twin. Everything worked in all the rooms I have stayed in except wifi was sporadic no matter which room... More

We stayed for 11 nights at this gem of a hotel. It was easy to book via email and to find out that the room was suitable for our requirements as my husband requires an accessible room. The location is pretty good - walking distance to the train station and an easy bus ride or walk to the main attractions... More

Toyoko Inn has 4 hotels in Kyoto, and all of them are difficult to reserve. This hotel is the 3rd convenient one as regards transportation since Toyoko Inn 4jyo and 5jyo Karasuma can be accessed by subway, meaning getting off Shinkansen and only taking one subway is required. However, to this 4jyo Omiya, from kyoto Station, once you take a subway and... The best thing I can say about this hotel is their friendly and helpful staff. They're all smiles and very welcoming. Room is very clean and good sized. Sterilised sleeping gowns are provided and slippers as well. We took bus no. 206 from Kyoto station and the bus stop is really close to the hotel. Bus 207 also stops here.... More

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighborhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
