We stayed for 2 nights as a family of 3. It was peak season so the rates were higher, but still reasonable, especially if you compare around the area. We were on holiday, so the location - a couple minutes walk to the train and bus stations, made it an excellent base to travel from. As many reviewers already noted,... More

Due to it being an expensive season they had good reasons to sell rooms for residual ours price and they could still fill up. Breakfast was OK but too full of people and many people were waiting in the morning, so I am not coming back for business. It is good location, only a few steps from the station and... More

We stayed in Dormy Inn for 3 nights on our recent trip to Japan. The main criteria that lead me to choose this place was the convienience to Kyoto station and I guess we could not have chosen a better place. It is literally next to the station and easily connects via bus and train to all the attractions in... More

Stayed there for a week. i have nothing bad to say about the hotel. 2-3' walking from the Kyoto central station in a very safe area. Rooms are small but they are extremely well sought after with many high tech amenities and details. I have also tried their full body massage twice and it was amazing. I highly recommend this... The staff here were great. Breakfast included is a must and gives a real Japan feel. The hot springs assist with tide muscles and sore feet. It is well located and a short walk from JR station, buses and subway.

Comfortable room for the price we paid. Being able to soak in the public bath every night was also a great way to end each day of sightseeing. Rooms were small but clean and served its purpose well. Staff were also very helpful in helping us make reservations. Not located near most major sites but was easy to travel there... More

This hotel was an easy walk from Kyoto Station. Front desk staff were very efficient and helpful. The hotel and room itself seemed designed more for businessmen than couples -- the room was functional in design and the accessories seemed designed for men, including the pajamas, which were really ugly (people looked like they were in an institution wearing them).... This place is simply great. Short walk from the station, very modern and clean, a great outdoor rooftop Onsen, free ramen at night, friendly staff - I could go on. Decent sized rooms for Japan with the basic amenities that you would need. Our room was without breakfast, but it looked like a good buffet.

Dont be fooled by the small size the moment you step into hotel and to the room. This hotel is punching above its weight. Its furnishing is warm and modern Location A short 5 mins walk away from the main Kyoto station. Its a good compromise- walking distance vs price. Beside the lobby, i mean right beside...theres a convenient store... More

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighborhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
