If you are planning day trips, staying at the Dormy Inn across the street from the train station, is most helpful. This is not a review of the station but it has at least 80 restaurants, dancing water and music show outside and incredible moving light effects inside. Having said this, there is no action here and if you enjoy... More

Dear sir/ma'am, Thank you very much for staying with us and also taking your time to share your thoughts. As you mentioned, we are in front of Kyoto station and it is convenient to travel far, but it is not in the central for touring spot. However, most buses which goes to sightseeing spots are departing at Kyoto station. So,... More

This hotel is within walking distance of Kyoto's central train station, a hub for local buses as well. The rooms are small but well-appointed and the breakfasts are fabulous. A 7-11 with an international atm is right around the corner.

The location of this hotel is unbeatable! It is only a minute or two if you take the A-3 exit of the underground mall Porta which is connected to the Kyoto station. From A-3 exit, the hotel is literally just diagonally across the street and there's a "scramble" crossing. This route is helpful on rainy days! To get to the... More

Relatively near subway, and link to JR railway, with clean rooms stocked well with everything you need - safe, yukata, slippers, fridge, kettle, TV, etc. even though the room was small! Great onsen with indoor and outdoor pools, nicely decorated and clean. Free ramen from 9-11pm was a great option, with complimentary drinks in the eating area earlier in the... More

Great home base, 3 minutes from Kyoto station where you can catch all the trains and buses to all major touristy spots, especially the temples. We booked a twin room based upon other reviewer's tips and they're spot on! The extra room helped. Shower was tight but ok. Room amenities were ok, not great. For the price, I would have... More

We did the usual tourist run about the city and this was the perfect central place to go from. Quick easy access to the bus system that takes you to all the temples and such and plenty of access to things to do at night. Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighborhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
