If you are going to ride the Sagano Romantic Train, slow down your steps during the trip and stay in a hotel with Japanese style dinner and breakfast, this one should be a very good choice. And when compared with other near-by hotels with public bath facilities and with both dinner and breakfast, this hotel was certainly high-value. I did... More

Good choice to stay for exploring Arashiyama small convenience store & nice restaurant within 5 mins walking distance you can find cheap bicycle rent at the main street but not behind the JR station located a small road which is cost higher overall recommend at a price of ¥9,000 no breakfast

Convenience and Attractions: - It is right next to the JR Saga-Arashiyama station (on the Sanin/Sagano line), which takes 16 minutes (11min via express) from Kyoto station. - It is not a far walk from Togetsukyō bridge, Tenryū-ji and the bamboo forest - Note, you can hire row-boats on the beautiful river by the bridge. And buy drinks and food... More

For the few days in Kyoto, my partner and I stayed in Gion which was an excellent location but we wanted to see the rest of the sites around Kyoto. This hotel was about 30 minutes away from Gion, but it was located near the Bamboo Forest and Monkey Park. There is a touristy street to buy gifts and a... More

Staying in Western Kyoto

Neighborhood Profile
Western Kyoto
Western Kyoto is home to some of the city's best eccentricities. Kyoto's Saga-Toriimoto Preserved Street takes visitors back in time to the Meiji Period, where old homes have been transformed into tea houses and eateries. Pleasure boats drift down the riverbank, under wooden bridges that beckon nature lovers to hiking trails and botanical walks. The area's famously tall bamboo groves, monkey park, and impressive vistas during the Hanami cherry blossom viewing season mean that it is busiest in warmer months, though also gorgeous in the fall, when the mountains and hills along the banks turn multi-colored. Historic and engaging, even the rail cars in Western Kyoto seek to exemplify its traditional nature and scenic beauty. Many people, including natives, come to visit the 1,200 rakan statues at the Otagi Nenbutsuji Temple, which is still in use as a religious site.
