The best thing this place has going for it, is its location. 2 minutes from a subway, 25 min walk to Kyoto Station, 8 minutes to the market. Overall the place is clean and quiet. Like weird quiet...I would give it a better rating if the bed was comfortable.

Rooms were more cabins than capsules, with pull down shades like in a storage facility, but nothing could be locked. It was possible to stand up on the bed. Everything was pretty clean and bright. There was enough room, with plugs, wifi, tv. Facilities were shared with individual showers. Reception staff, however, were really the most miserable bunch of people.... More

I spent one night at this capsule-lite hotel, in a first class cabin. Decision was driven by price (last-minute booking at the height of Sakura) but also curiosity, and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Clean room and baths, and comfortable bed. Avail yourself of the ear plugs proffered at the desk, unless you want to hear people snoring. Sizable locker... More

I stayed 6 nights, and I feel like I can give a thorough review: Staff: polite, efficient, courteous. All had decent English. I asked for plenty of help (directions, calling a tour company, help working the laundry) & they handled all my requests well. If you want perfect English, stay in an English-speaking country. These guys did great for non-natives.... More

I had wanted to try this, as an intro to capsule hotels. I took the cabin or first class room as they called it. It was slightly bigger than the usual capsule, with floor space for luggage. There are no locked doors, just curtains to keep the privacy. The cabins were definitely quiet, but you could hear your neighbours drinking... More

Thank you for staying our hotel. We appreciate your understanding about the curtain that keep the privacy. The location you mentioned is very famous among the tourists. Did you enjoy it? Also we're very glad that you gave us the complement about our stuff who speak English though they can't speak verbal English well. We keep the shower area clean... More

Nice facilities, clean and quiet, however the temperature is way too hot and I could not sleep well Also where I was unlucky is that my neighbor started talking to himself, going in and out of the cabin which made the experience uncomfortable...

Its my 2nd time here (the previous one was last summer) and its as awesome as always. The only downside is i have to constantly remind the receptionist to lower down the cabin's temperature(it is centralized btw) coz its kinda hot.this time around i stayed at the first class cabins, which is way more spacious than business class. Pretty much... More

I have been to Kyoto a couple of times staying in different kinds of lodging: youth hostel, franchaised hotels; this visit I picked First Cabin Kyoto solely out of curiosity. I shall start with the location: it's less than 5 mins walk from the Shijo subway Exit 5 and the entrance of first cabin is tucked away in a side... More

My staying in First Cabin was great. The structure is located at walking distance from the Nikishi market and a big shopping and nightlife area, but at the same time in a very quiet street. You can reach the rest of the city by subway in a easy way. The rooms are very clean and modern, as well as the... More

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighborhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
