Great place to check out. If you're expecting bars and social life, you are in the wrong city. Great launch pad to visit sites and temples - bamboo forest and the surrounding park a must. Ponto-chō also well worth a visit. Bring a rain coat!

Well worth getting the first class cabins- good price and spacious. Each cabin comes with your own TV, toiletries, Pjs and headphones. The hotel facilities are really nice like the ladies showers. Karasuma is a great central location in Kyoto :^) Would recommend to anyone travelling solo and would definitely stay again.

The capsule/cabin itself was actually really spacious, the room was mostly quiet meaning a good night's sleep was had. The location is excellent, it's literally around the corner from a subway exit. Staff were ok, but could have been much more friendly. There are lots of shops, convenience stores and Starbucks across the road.

If you fancy a box without good ventilation where the air con vent is from a corridor and the air seep through from bottom of the curtain that is your door, If the typical Japanese politeness is a mask that you have been subjected to in your stay in Japan You will find the mask still and none of any... The best thing this place has going for it, is its location. 2 minutes from a subway, 25 min walk to Kyoto Station, 8 minutes to the market. Overall the place is clean and quiet. Like weird quiet...I would give it a better rating if the bed was comfortable.

Rooms were more cabins than capsules, with pull down shades like in a storage facility, but nothing could be locked. It was possible to stand up on the bed. Everything was pretty clean and bright. There was enough room, with plugs, wifi, tv. Facilities were shared with individual showers. Reception staff, however, were really the most miserable bunch of people.... More

I spent one night at this capsule-lite hotel, in a first class cabin. Decision was driven by price (last-minute booking at the height of Sakura) but also curiosity, and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Clean room and baths, and comfortable bed. Avail yourself of the ear plugs proffered at the desk, unless you want to hear people snoring. Sizable locker... More

I stayed 6 nights, and I feel like I can give a thorough review: Staff: polite, efficient, courteous. All had decent English. I asked for plenty of help (directions, calling a tour company, help working the laundry) & they handled all my requests well. If you want perfect English, stay in an English-speaking country. These guys did great for non-natives.... More

I had wanted to try this, as an intro to capsule hotels. I took the cabin or first class room as they called it. It was slightly bigger than the usual capsule, with floor space for luggage. There are no locked doors, just curtains to keep the privacy. The cabins were definitely quiet, but you could hear your neighbours drinking... More

Thank you for staying our hotel. We appreciate your understanding about the curtain that keep the privacy. The location you mentioned is very famous among the tourists. Did you enjoy it? Also we're very glad that you gave us the complement about our stuff who speak English though they can't speak verbal English well. We keep the shower area clean... More

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighborhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
