7 minute walk from Kyoto station. This place is clean with very nice and helpfull staff . There is a washer and dryer for 500 yen, computers and a printer and a little kitchen with a fridge you can leave stuff in. Some cafe's and convince stores nearby.

We stayed at their sister guesthouse, The Budget Inn, around the corner from the Capsule Ryokan and it was perfect for our family of four. Although some may find the rooms small by western standards, it's so well arranged that we ended up with more than enough room. There's a common kitchen where we were able to eat meals in... More

From turning up early to leaving our bags beyond check out time the staff could not do enough for us. We were treated so well from this great team and loved our stay. The info delivered both verbally and available in the written travel guide in English and use of maps was the best we had in our whole trip... More

Most convenient location walking distance from Kyoto Station (less than 10mins) and along many city bus routes. There is a Circle K nearby. Ensuite room has everything you need. Shared kitchen at the ground level with microwave, fridge, toaster, plates, cups, etc. You can also borrow many items from.them-iron/board, hangers, reading lamp, toothbrush, comb, etc. Staff members are wonderful and... Considering the price/quality ratio, i found this hotel to be very good. i spent 3 nights there last november Although not to strong, we had wifi in our bedroom. The staff was really nice and spoke perfectly english. It was a little bit far from the subway and train stations, but it was close to restaurants, supermarkets and to a... More

Really helpful and friendly staff, rooms compact but clean and had everything you'd need as a base for the city. Our only niggles would be that there wasn't a great deal going on at night in the area (it's a 20-30 minute bus ride to the hubbub of the downtown area), and the WiFi was pretty patchy (despite having about... I stayed for four nights in a private room. The hotel is very close to the Kyoto station and to different means of public transport (bus, train, subway). The staff was very helpful and charming, and spoke excellent English. The room came with a nice little booklet with tips on where to find the best public transport, restaurants, ATMs, drugstores... As a Travel agent I stayed at a lot of expensive Hotels but this Ryokan impressed me by trying to meet every need of a traveller ! Friendly and competent staff who gave good tips and even offered a shoe dryer when he saw us coming in from the light rain. Room was small but equipped with hair dryer, electric... More

We had a wonderful stay at the ryokan. We stayed in a private room - they are very tiny (in ours the mattresses are on a raised platform - the "floor" lifts up so you can store your luggage underneath you) but well-equipped (rainhead/massage jet shower, fancy auto-lift toilet seat. The front desk staff were wonderfully helpful and there's a... More

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighborhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
