The Thousand Kyoto stands out for its serene atmosphere and chic design, offering travelers spacious, tech-savvy rooms near Kyoto station, which is highly appreciated for city exploration. While the cleanliness and attentive service, including robot-delivered amenities, receive consistent praise, some guests find the hotel's additional charges and pricey extras detract from its value.

This is a fabulous hotel conveniently located across the street from Kyoto station and nearby many eateries and shopping options within walking distance. The hotel is driven on sustainability where many of the items and small touch points, like many Japanese hotels, pay attention to the details. The key cards are made of reusable Japanese cypress wood, matching the decor and the actual sent within the hotel and in the bathroom amenities. The bottled water is in recyclable aluminum cans and not single use plastic.
Omotenashi at the Thousand is something to look forward to. Upon arriving at the hotel, they staff associates here help us get some reservations to some popular restaurants around town since we don’t speak Japanese. We were even able to get a reservation at a 1-star Michelin restaurant thanks to them. We also had a problem with the weather while we were here. It snowed in Kyoto, which from what I understand is not very common. And boy did it come down, the trains were cancelled and there was a mad scramble to get taxi’s. We were under to gun to make our Michelin star reservations without having to pay a 60% cancellation fee and the staff came through with getting us a taxi to get to our dinner. With the bad weather, they also provided us some umbrellas to use, which was a nice touch.
In terms of amenities here, the fitness center is top notch for a hotel gym. I went down a few times and the best part was it was completely empty and I had this pretty large facility all to myself. I also got my laundry done, a little pricey but if you put the order in before 10am, you’re guaranteed to get your laundry back by 7pm same day. The restaurants, I was only able to try Kizahashi and it was for their Japanese breakfast. If the rest of the food there was anything like their Japanese breakfast, you will not be disappointed.
My wife and I loved our stay here in the spacious rooms and would recommend your stay here, especially since the station is next door and you’re literally a hop skip and a jump away from places like Nishiki Market, the Gion district and many sight seeing locations like Arashiyama.

There's a lot to love about The Thousand Kyoto: wide, wide room, well-curated buffet breakfast (choices may be more limited but each selection was top notch), location (just outside Kyoto station), and seamless check-in and check-out including Yamato luggage service. This impressive hotel checks all the marks of a great stop of our Kyoto-Osaka vacation with my 3 girls. The Superior Super King Room could actually accommodate us 2 adults and 2 teenagers with floor space to spread 4-6 luggages. Shower and linens were fresh with a strong shower. The hotel was a welcome haven after traveling all day. We would definitely come back.

I really loved this hotel. The room was spacious and well-appointed but in no way cluttered, I had plenty of room to unpack and put my own stuff where I wanted it (without making the space feel cluttered), the room and hallways were very quiet, and the bed was extremely comfortable. During one of the days of my stay I was feeling unwell, and I basically lay around the room and slept most of the day. It was the most comforting and relaxing space I can imagine, and the next day I was fully refreshed and ready to resume my itinerary. The location of this hotel is ideal for a visit to Kyoto, especially if you want to use the subway, JR, and/or buses to get around the city or take day trips.
I was particularly happy with the service I received when I need to recover an item I left behind. Concierge Peiyun Chiang spent a lot of time communicating on the phone and by email about this, and front desk staff Ren Goto and Assistant Manager Tomoya Mori also helped out graciously and attentively.
I dearly hope that I can stay at The Thousand again in the future!

We stayed for 5 nights in this property first impressions are excellent . Location is very central and initial greeting is very courteous and friendly.checkin and out is efficient but the language skills of some staff are very poor ,is the word “car park” too high a level for front hall staff to understand , a shrug of the shoulders doesn’t really answer the question, that aside baggage handling is good with minimal delay .the The room (818) is reasonably spacious for a city centre hotel and is well appointed with a range of high tech functions , lights , curtains etc all controlled via an iPad .connectivity however is very hit and miss with a reconnect requirement every day .Sleep quality is good its unfortunate that the room is not provided with a double bed but two large singles with quite a large gap in between despite what they tell you on reception I.e. “you won’t notice the gap” - yes you do - ( there is a supplement for the same room with a double bed which calculates as twice the per night rate ) that seems to be commonplace in Japan. The bathroom was compact with a rain shower wet room with excellent water pressure , toiletries are pump action with a very pleasant fragrance.Housekeeping is very good and our room was sparklingly clean as is the whole property ,towels and linen are good quality and bright white water and coffee capsules are replenished daily . There is the option of breakfast ( additional charge ) based on a voucher system which are issued at check in , why it’s not registered on their computer's system is beyond me , the staff in the restaurant literally. Follow you around until you give them the voucher which if like me you go for breakfast before your wife and she has the vouchers leads to a degree of rigid behaviour breakfast which is a combination Ala Carte which means mainly egg dishes but not only and buffet style (which never changes ) for everything else ,the breakfast is a comprehensive mix of western and Japanese cuisine but for some inexplicable reason a selection of fruit tea bags such as camomile green tea etc which is common in all 4 and 5 star hotels is not available I was advised that a camomile tea bag was an extra charge REALLY !! ! in a 5 star high end property .yet again the language skills of some staff are poor to non existent Which in a hotel with a high percentage of foreign guests ,it seems strange that some waiters don’t understand basic restaurant requests. My wife and I are fortunate that we have travelled extensively around the world staying primarily in properties of this standard and this one has some glitches to iron out. That aside it should be said the hotel offers an attractive package if you can ignore the minor details we found illogical or just plain irritating, in short we would not return.

The building and our family suit were spacious and beautiful but the service did not meet our expectations given it was the most expensive of all of our accomodation and the hotel has an abundance of staff standing around appearing busy! Where do I start…Hard to catch a cab from the front was told there was a 10 minute wait for a cab when there are hundreds driving past constantly. Our wifi did not work the whole time were were there which is unacceptable given the price of the room per night and the business crowd that were constantly in the foyer. We went out one day at 8am and when we returned at 2pm the cleaners had only just started servicing our room and we were told it would take two hours to finish? We didn’t have and hand soap in the toilet. Our room rate didn’t include breakfast so the first morning I paid 150 for our breakfast buffet which at 9:30 (it ends at 10:30) was already dried up and unappealing. It was a western breakfast but everything was just plain weird. The french toast was created from a weird bread the croissants had ran out it was the worst breakfast from the three hotels we had stayed at we didn’t attend again. Hmmm the person who came to help connect our phone to the TV so we could stream television had the worst smelling feet to the point where we didn’t want to call for help again. The TV needed a cord to stream from phone to TV all the other hotels didn’t need this. The coffee machine took me 100 presses from all different angles to start working. When you wait at the desk for help or to pick up your bags there are 10 staff members all looking busy but not looking up to help. We were honestly left disappointed and for the price you pay I’m sure there are better options in Kyoto. The room was beautiful and spacious and the location to the train station were amazing but that’s where it ends.

Well, we have found customer service just fine, but as a North American, I wouldn’t expect everyone to know Car Park means Parking Lot.
If you arrive via Kyoto Station, as we did, first you marvel at the station architecture. Second, you exit, turn right, and the hotel is about 100 yards away.
It looks like a contemporary art museum!
I wish .japanese hotels were more lenient with check in times before 3 pm…but we checked our bags and went one floor up to the casual restaurant for a light lunch. The food was meh. I loved how they brought a container to lift my handbag off the floor.
When we finally checked in after two tours, the systems were a little precious. You select amenities like a shower cap at the desk to avert eco waste. OK. You are shown a tablet to operate everything in the room: curtains, lights, AC etc. a first for us. I am a boomer and I could do it. My husband not so much.
When we got into the room, I noticed how spacious it was and how beautifully furnished! The bed is a super King or California king. I have never seen one this large. The bathroom is divided into three areas: toilet which does everything but steam vegetables, sink, and wet room with a shower and tub. I do not quite understand the value of a wet room but the water pressure was great.

The Thousand Kyoto is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed at, superior to expensive 5*star hotels like the Four Seasons Madrid, Langham London & Park Hyatt Vienna. To start with, as soon as I walked into reception, I was impressed by how beautiful and spacious the hotel is. It is an exquisite and calming environment. The service I received at reception from Ms Park (more about her later!) was so welcoming and reassuring and check in was efficient. I loved my King room; very spacious and beautifully decorated, the bedding made for heavenly sleep. It made such a change from my cramp quarters in Tokyo. The bathroom was spacious with both a tub and shower, and a roomy separate area with a basin. I had breakfast every day of my stay and found it really delightful, the avocado toast with the layer of marmalade and the little pork sausages with potato salad. Everything was absolutely delicious. I dined at the Tea bar on my first day and the Italian restaurant on my second evening, food was good, service was impeccable. Back to Ms Park.. I cannot fault the service I received at The Thousand, everyone was so kind and helpful but I want to give a special mention to Ms Park. When I arrived on the first day, I got a bit lost, and although the hotel is right next to Kyoto station, I took a wrong turning and ended up walking for 15 minutes, going up and down stairs and crossing bridges in the snow. Ms Park went to the trouble of showing me (not just explaining it) the short cut to the station and helped me with clear directions to a meeting point I had to go to the next morning. She was utterly charming! Thank you so much Ms Park for going the extra mile, and thank you so much to all of the staff I met. The extra touches from individual staff members meant a lot; thanks to the staff member who sent me mineral water and an origami swan via robot this morning so I could see the robot again - that was such a nice thing to do! When I come back to Kyoto, I will definitely be staying at The Thousand!

The Thousand Kyoto is a wonderful hotel option with a central location, beautiful rooms and lobby spaces, and helpful service. It was a wonderful homebase for our 3-night visit to Kyoto due to its proximity to Kyoto Station, the underground mall and Kyoto Tower. Despite this location, the hotel is tucked away with an arrival experience that makes you feel like the hotel is your refuge from the hustle and bustle of the city.
The rooms are beautiful (we were in a Deluxe Room) with nice fixtures, a large tub, amazing stone shower, modern Japanese toilets, corner windows with automated shades and a nice entry hallway. Housekeeping wasn’t particularly detailed (esp. by luxury hotel and Japan standards), but otherwise, we found service to be helpful and effective.
The design of the hotel overall is really striking. The hotel has a long entryway that opens into a large lobby with massive stone staircase and interactive art that changes the feel of the lobby depending on the time of day. There are three nice-looking restaurants (which we didn’t sample while we were there given how much great food there is in Kyoto to experience), and a nicely-appointed gym on the lower level.
We would happily return to The Thousand Kyoto on our next trip to the city!

Used at the spa. The hotel's location is very good, close to Kyoto Station. I like to drive, so I thought it would be a hassle to stay at a hotel near the station, but I was glad that I could access it smoothly (meaning that the parking lot is easy to find). You can go directly from the underground parking lot to the spa. You can access it from home in your room clothes. This was very good. The spa staff were polite and kind. The facilities were also clean and well-maintained, which was also nice. It was also great that spa customers can use the rock bath and bath for free. Maybe it was the shampoo and conditioner that were casually provided, or maybe it was the Dyson hair dryer, but after using the bath, I was surprised at how shiny my hair became. I was also grateful that I was given a small set of cleansing and lotion separately. The treatment was very good and my stiffness was thoroughly relieved. I was also happy that the differences in the spa menu were carefully explained. And the price is reasonable compared to other places. I would like to return again soon

Stated at this lovely hotel with my family. From the time of arrival to the day we departed, the staff was very friendly & helpful. The concierge converse well in English & resolved all our issues efficiently. Well done! In the room, it was big i& clean. We went for the Japanese traditional breakfast throughout our stay & it was delicious & filling. On the location, the hotel is well located within a shorty 5-8 mins walk from Kyoto station. In the vicinity, there are many convenient stores, eateries & shops. On the whole, a great hotel to consider for visiting Kyoto.

Very cool IPAD controls for the room settings. Black out blinds also which helped. Temp can be controlled to both ends of spectrum, we slept with very cold and it was very effective.
