Ben's Guesthouse Kyoto has a nice location. You can get to malls, drugstore, restaurants (Mc Donald's, Sukiya) and bus stops with a short walk. Also, it's quite easy to get to Kinkaku-ji (Golden Pavilion) from there. The room is amazing! It has everything: comfortable beds, WiFi, AC, TV, USB hub to charge up to 6 devices, a small kitchen, washing machine, bathtub, adjustable lights. You can turn the bathtub area into a dryer too. The place is quite clean. When you enter, you must leave your shoes at the shoe rack and get sandals to use inside the room. They also provide hand sanitizer in the entrance, along with some personal care products such as swabs. The staff speaks English (not fluently, but enough to communicate) and introduces the guest to their room, explianing how to use all the controllers, how to use the bathtub, how to turn the bathing area into a dryer. There is no elevator, only stairs. In my last trip to Japan, we went to Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka, and Ben's Guesthouse Kyoto was easily the best place we stayed in :)…
We are an American married couple in our 40s who saw Ben’s Guest House on Youtube’s “Life Where I am From” channel. This place is perfect. It is modern, spotlessly clean, has everything one could need and is a walk to the Gold Pavilion. We just finished a load of laundry ( Ben even provides the Tide Pods) and had a dinner at a local Izakaya on the guest house recommendation list. In nearly two weeks traveling in Japan, this is the first time I felt like we were not tourists.
Only stayed two nights. Could have enjoyed a longer stay. Compact room with everything that you could need. Absolutely appreciated the free washing machine with detergent, and amazed by the modern drying facility above the bath tub! I'd like one instead of my tumble dryer! Close to two shrines and no. 6 stop of hop off and hop on buses Kyoto tour bus. Handy food store and eateries nearby. Cooking facilities and good sized fridge and freezer. Two thousand 400 yen by cab to Kyoto station. Can go to local station Emmachi and cheaper cab fare. But with luggage, we used a taxi. Thank you, Ben! There's even a mobile wifi device, for your use if required. Thanking you, Fiona Cole
We stayed 4 nights in Kyoto and loved Ben’s Guesthouse. Very clean, comfy beds and even portable wifi. Tasty local restaurants and bakery just around the corner. And a McDonalds for early morning coffees when you are still adjusting to the time difference. Would definitely stay here again.
It was clean, comfy and the rooms are big. Ben and his staff are very friendly and were creating a family like atmosphere. My friends and I really loved the stay and we definitely come to stay there again. Our best stay all over Japan. Would be awesome to have another Guesthouse in other cities too.
