The hostel itself was fine, lovely staff who are very friendly, decent beds and lounge area. The room I was in had the sinks inside the actual bedroom, so I would often be woken up by the sound of people brushing their teeth. The overall atmosphere is nice, but most of the other guests come in at all hours of... More

It has a great location and access, only 5min walk to the bus station and convi store, about 10min walk to the train station, near to kiyomizudera temple and down town (kawaramachi). And you can just walk around to meet geisha, because gion is the famous location of them (but It's pretty hard to find them actually). There are also... More

This Hostel is a bit a youth guesthouse, it attacks a-bit-too-young folks, stayed here for a couple of nights, the locations is good, near all POI in Kyoto, common room is extremely Hot, dorms have in suite showers, don't know if pro or con. overall just ok. wifi didn't work in the dorms though

The staff here was extremely friendly, and the tightly-packed beds were warm and cozy. It was generally perfect for any short-term guests or backpackers passing through. The hostel was very conveniently located and well-priced, and I absolutely recommend it.

Great value for money because it is so cheap. The female dorm is a bit cramped but the mixed dorm was a lot more spacious. Small common room on the top floor with computers. A place with more secure luggage storage after checking out would be great.

I would give this hostel a 5 star as beds were comfy, showers hot and powerful, breakfast included, nice common area to meet people, great location, and cheap ... But .... The downside is that the dorms are pretty cramped and not a lot of space for rucksacks or suitcases (and if your a boy, the boys dorm is fairly... More

The bedroom was very small, it was hard to find a place for suitcases, but it was clean, the beds had curtain, it is well located and the staff is great, always happy to help, they gave me good advises.

I stayed in the female dorm and, I can't deny it, the space is tiny. However, I stayed for two nights and could have stayed for a couple more. It does get a little cramped. But you deal with so many situations in dorms, this is hardly the worst. The besa were clean and comfy. Showers in the dorm. Staff... More

I boked this hostel, as it was pretty much the only place left in Kyoto (I went during cherry blossom season). It was a good find - reasonably priced, great location, easy to find. I did find it a bit of a struggle to meet people here though. There were 2 10 bed dorms, one for men and one for... More

Great location, right in the middle of Kyoto's most beautiful area. The hostel is split over the 3rd and 5th floors of an apartment block, with the reception and dorms on the 3rd and the common room on the 5th. Beds are comfortable and have privacy curtains, and the showers and toilets are clean. The staff speak decent English. The... More

Staying in Gion

Neighborhood Profile
Gion
Gion is Kyoto's famed Geisha District (called "Geiko" in Kyoto). Though Gion's many tea houses and entertainment restaurants are closed to foreigners, Geiko and Maiko in their traditional makeup with gilded hair in full kimono can be seen drifting the streets on their way to and from work, where they fan dance, sing, and play instruments for customers. Gion lights up at night, when the ancient-looking streets glow with lanterns along the river, where weeping willows catch the starlight and the air is warmed with conversation. Groups pass through to populate the restaurants and bars along the riverfront, but Gion still manages to be a mostly quiet district, due in large part to limited automotive traffic through many of its streets. Gion is a wonderful place to indulge in Kyoto's local and customary cuisines, and is best enjoyed after dark.
