Southern Kyoto
Southern Kyoto has a reserved air. Though the Fushimi Inari Shrine is one of Kyoto's major tourist attractions, the surrounding nature, parks, gardens, temples, and shrines provide less-visited spaces for strolling and reflection. The Fushimi Inari Shrine itself is made up of 32,000 sub-shrines, and the mountain they are dotted across beckons hikers, picnickers, and lovers of the outdoors. Many of the mountain's off-set paths aren't frequented by tourists, and the mountain's serenity can be enjoyed at a leisurely pace. Southern Kyoto is the place to enjoy being outside, and to pay your respects to the ancient architecture and gods of the land that are celebrated here.

We spent 5 nights at this hotel and chose it for the location. It is convenient for the station and bus station to get around Kyoto and to Nara. The rooms are small and whilst some people like the leg massagers etc., I would rather have had the room they were taking up. The hotel is modern and clean and the bed comfortable. There is a laundry and reception helped us to send luggage to our next hotel. There is no restaurant for breakfast which was not a problem as we ate at the bakery in the station before heading out for the day. We had a corner room overlooking the road and did find that the busses stopping at the traffic lights woke us in the mornings. Maybe other rooms were quieter. We did not use their courtesy bus as it only ran certain days and even then not at convenient times. Anyway Kyoto was fairly easy to get around. All in all the hotel represents good value for money and with better double glazing would merit 5 stars.

Location is good, walking distance to Kyoto Station, Kujo Subway Station convenient store and eateries. Good for light travellers as hotel provides washer and dryer at a reasonable price. Staff are very helpful.

This hotel is awesome. Picked it because of its location. I was expecting it to be small, like one would expect for hotels in Japan. And thought of it as just a place to sleep. The room is surprising spacious by Japanese standards. Disclaimer: we brought backpacks instead of suitcases and while we had ample room for our huge backpacks I can see it being a problem if we had suitcases instead. What I liked about it is that it included the following: 1) a mobile device with internet connectivity for you to take with you while sightseeing so that you can use the internet and lookup maps 1) a face steam spa device - used it on the first day but like the idea of it 2) a leg air massager. This is a winner for us. It’s a device by Panasonic which you wrap these huge Velcro cuffs around your legs and it uses air to compress your legs to massage it. We used it after a long day of walking and it made a difference. We definitely felt lightly when we headed out for dinner. We used this device daily and love it even considered purchasing one. Accommodation wise, the beds are super comfy, they provided two bottles of water on check in. The lifts are fast and there is a laundry, free ice dispenser and vending machines on the ground floor. Highly recommend this place.

I really liked this hotel. The staff were friendly, the room, though small, was clean and comfortable and it was inexpensive. It's just a few minutes walk from the station, and then on into town for some good shopping. On the last day there, we caught a courtesy bus up to the Golden Temple, which was excellent. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again; it has a CoCo Curry house literally outside the front door, which for me was an added bonus!

No complaints here folks. Great location, terrific staff, clean, friendly and good value. Laundry on site for a few hundred yen. No breakfast or coffee so we headed to McDonalds daily for breakfast. Great thing it was only 5 mins up the road at Kyoto Station. Very good value. Courtesy shuttle bus to Nishiki Market and a few Temple and shrines. Thanks Garnet Hotel!
