I had my flight booked on the 21. of March 2020 Unfortunately due to the corona pandemic Crisis around the world , Japan closed its borders. ( which is understandable) I notified Tanaka Gokurakudo guesthouse that I am Not able to come ... Without any hesitation they refunded the money For my stay ... I definitely plan to come here on my next trip to Kyoto... And to all of you who are able to see Kyoto without all this Huge amount of Tourist... enjoy the cherry blossom season and Enjoy your stay at Tanaka Gokurakudo guesthouse.
The place is located in a quiet area, it's super convenient because it's close to Kyoto station and it's the place I come to, every time I go back to Kyoto. The owner is super nice and keeps the place clean and tidy, he will help you if you have questions and make sure you are doing great. The beds are comfortable and there is a shared living room, very nice!
We stayed in a private room and it was clean, comfortable and homely. Tanaka-san is soft-spoken but pleasant and helpful. He allowed us to store our luggage in the foyer even after we checked out, allowing us to go and view the sights of Kyoto on our last day. This guesthouse is great for people who wish to experience sleeping in the traditional Japanese way on a futon in a tatami room, but do not wish to spend a lot of money. A convenience store, Porta underground mall and Kyoto station are extremely close by, making this an ideal stay for travellers who do not want to stray too far from Kyoto station. If you have mobility issues, however, it may be best to find alternate accommodation as the property does not have a lift and there is a fairly large step between the foyer and the genkan. The stairs are also quite steep so it's important to be careful, especially when heading down to the bathroom at night.…
Quaint and cozy guesthouse with an incredibly convenient location right next door to Kyoto JR Station. If you're coming from the Shinkansen exit be sure to take Exit 2 towards Kyoto Tower (Kyoto station can be disorienting) Also, a couple of suggestions for improvement: 1) guesthouse should specify right out that there is an additional accommodation charge on top of the actual reservation (I reserved a single room for $65CAD) and they charged an added ¥100 also if you dont have a towel it's an additional ¥100). 2) Room was clean and cozy but they really need to change the futon because it was well used and fattened to the thickness of a leaf (not very comfortable). But apart from that, highly recommend esp for 1 night stay
A very neat and aesthetically pleasing place to stay. The host was lovely and warm. The guest house is located very close to Kyoto Station - walking distance. Makes it easy to travel about town. Groceries, lots of food places and cafes around.
At first when I arrived I was concerned because it looked closed so I sent an email and the staff was very reactive and told me to come cause it was opened. The hostel is literally straight from Kyoto station you can't be closer and easier to find its the perfect location. It's a quiet place with a very authentic feeling, nice decoration, very clean and the staff is here to help. I would definitely recommend this place and go back there if I had to come back to Kyoto!
At first I was concerned because there was nobody at reception when I tried to check in, but there was a phone and a note. The owner came down quickly, he was on the property, just away from the front. He was very professional, helpful, and hospitable. I stayed in a single, private room, and it was wonderful. The futon was the most comfortable, I didn't freeze even though it was the middle of winter, and there was plenty of room inside for me and my luggage. There was even a cushion and floor lamp so I didn't have to go downstairs to sit and do things. The kitchen, while small and in the middle of everything, is bigger than the kitchen in my Japanese apartment, has the basics one needs to cook (knife, pans, cooking utensils, plates, cups, eating utensils (even forks), hot water maker, fridge, microwave, 2 burner stovetop). I was able to comfortably live here for two weeks while I did a workshop. It's RIGHT by Kyoto train station, so you can catch all the public transit lines easily and have an easy time of getting back even if you wander around, and it's easy to find following the directions you're given, even if you don't have cell phone service, which is more than I can say about some of the other hostels I've stayed at. 10/10 do definitely recommend. I haven't stayed in the group rooms, but the private rooms are A+.…
I stayed here solo in march and found it perfect. I had a good sized room with large cupboard and nice futon. There is 2 toilets and a shower downstairs but found this fine even though it was relatively busy. It felt very authentic to stay in as a foreigner to japan with tatami mats and futons. Location is excellent only a few minutes from Kyoto station and was easy to find using google maps. Very clean and the owner had excellent english.
I am another 3 friends we were there in middle of October actually the guest house itself is located in the great place near and easy to walk to the Kyoto Station however we spent almost 2 hours to find this guest house as the name of the guest house (English) is not clear and can’t see we were walking like a circle finally we reach there in the rain, the guest house is clean and the bed is comfy Tanaka (Owner) is friendly there is 1 shower room, 1 male toilet, 1 female toilet it could have to be line up sometime, but we are ok as we are not really hurry up, we would recommend this Guest house, we will stay there again if we have plan to visit Kyoto. Thank you.
