I've never written a review for any hotel before, but I have to make an exception for this ryokan. This was by far, with no exceptions, the most enjoyable stay I have ever had anywhere. The staff who run the place make the phrase "going the extra mile" seem like a huge understatement. Always giving us tea, making sure we... More

We stayed 4 nights in the characterful and tranquil yoshimizu inn (means auspicious water) located at the hill top of the beautiful maruyama park yet only 15 mins leisure walk from Gion. The first 2 nights in a traditional tatami room with washing basin which is handy. The last 2 nights in a western style twin room with 2 sets... More

The staff at Yoshimizu make this place even more special. They went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable and had what we needed. Welcoming and attentive. The room was delightful overlooking the garden. Bath was shared but private use. Toilets were also shared but close to our room. Breakfast was delicious, particularly for the toast and... More

This place was the best I stayed at in Japan and potentially the whole of Asia. It's set in a beautiful park so is really peaceful and relaxing, but is also really close to Gion's sights. The service was incredible - the two guys were so helpful and always giving us tea. The room was great for an authentic Japanese... More

When I first came to Yoshimizu Ryokan, I was afraid that it was the wrong place. Our taxi driver had problem finding the address and was struggling to get to the correct location. After two tries at the wrong address, we reached the top of the hill where the ryokan is located. The place is tranquil and calming. We got... More

Initially worried that this Ryokan was not in the centre we came to appreciate its location right by the Yasaka shrine and walking distance from Gion. Arriving at Kyoto station we took a taxi there and were made very welcome by the Manager. After cooling down we headed off to said shrine (which I have to say we liked more... More

We love old-school Ryokan and we loved Yoshimizu. What: Traditional Ryokan. Beautiful building with lovely garden you. Location: It's located inside of a park. 15 min walk from crowded touristy area. Very quiet. Amenity: They have very traditional bathrooms with deep tub. Guests take turns and share the bath. It's private. Comes with simple breakfast. Usually toasts, a few dished... More

The serene location, onsen bath with spring water, and Japanese hospitality makes this Ryokan ideal. Yoshimizu (i.e. Mizu means water) is located in the forest, about 20 minute walk through the park to "old" Kyoto. Our cab driver did not know where it was--which is great because the place is tranquil. Stay at Yoshimizu, enjoy the onsen and you will... More

One of the highlights during our trip, if you really want to experience a real Ryokan this is definitely the place, it has a really convenient location to stay at Kyoto because of all of the points of interest nearby and the beautiful scenery of old Kyoto. The Ryokan itself is beautiful, rooms (Tatami) are comfortable and it is a... More

A lovely old inn - full of quirks. The quietest and most serene setting. The staff are the best especially the host Takahashi-san. You need to get used to the footwear protocols but a lovely place to stay.
