Our family of 5 stayed in 2 rooms very comfortably. The location is amazingly easy to get to from the train station. We picked up some food for breakfast and were able to store it in the refrigerator. One day it rained and we just borrowed umbrellas and kept going.

This was actually few years back we stayed in Chita, Kyoto which owned by a beautiful, friendly and helpful woman, Kahori. It was my first time experiencing tatami, clean and without smell. Everything was prepared well when we reached. Even though it's sharing washroom/toilet, they are always in clean condition which i found it amazingly comfortable. It is really quiet... More

First of all, we had no former experience of ryokans. Straight away we spent a whole week in, had no problems with anything, considering we knew there would be shared bathrooms and kitchen. Staff is very nice and helpful, speaks english very well. If I ever come across Kyoto, I'll come here!

I run a tour company and have used the inn for many years. It is perfectly situated, fabulous staff, kitchen for guest use, Japanese style bath what more could you need. Kahori is the most helpful person you could meet. It is clean, welcoming and has wifi in all rooms plus a computer for guest use.

This place is a small ryokan (traditional Japanese guest house) for backpackers. Shared facilities (which aren't really my thing) but they were clean and reasonably appointed. It was quieter than I expected considering its thin walls, though you may want some earplugs in case you get snoring neighbours. Friendly landlady, and really well located centrally. Downsides would be that you... More

Stayed here for four nights to visit Kyoto and Nara and it's a good place to stay. 10 min walk from Kyoto station, WIFI in the rooms, laundry facilities, kooking facilities and English speaking staff. The hostel is very clean and the two bathrooms and two toilets, wich you have to share, are cleaned daily. The rooms are large enough... More

Good location near Kyoto station and was very easy to find from there, about a 5min walk. Free wifi in room. Well kept. The keeper was very friendly and ever so helpful. The walls were a little thin so could here people walking in the hall but not a problem, was minimal and slept very well.

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighborhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
