Very nice place to stay. I had a single room with a futon. Shared bathroom. Everything was clean. The owner is very kind and speaks english very well. The position is really convenient, less than 10 minutes walking from Kyoto railway station.

The host speaks perfect English which is handy and sleeping on the floor (with a futon) is really comfy! the pillow is a bit different (filled with beads?) but other than that i loved this place. Solo traveller, and got their single room. The Room: spacious, traditional Japanese experience, clean. The futon was so comfortable I would have loved to sleep in some more in it; but I did have to get out there and see the sites. That was arranged in one half of the room. The other half had a table with two chairs...

This was the second time that I have stayed at this ryokan, and again I found it to be amazing. Location-wise, it is right opposite Higashi Honganji temple, just on a little side street, and is only about a five minute walk from Kyoto JR Station. The hostess is a lovely lady that speaks very good English, and welcomed us...

Our family of 5 stayed in 2 rooms very comfortably. The location is amazingly easy to get to from the train station. We picked up some food for breakfast and were able to store it in the refrigerator. One day it rained and we just borrowed umbrellas and kept going.

First of all, we had no former experience of ryokans. Straight away we spent a whole week in, had no problems with anything, considering we knew there would be shared bathrooms and kitchen. Staff is very nice and helpful, speaks english very well. If I ever come across Kyoto, I'll come here!

I run a tour company and have used the inn for many years. It is perfectly situated, fabulous staff, kitchen for guest use, Japanese style bath what more could you need. Kahori is the most helpful person you could meet. It is clean, welcoming and has wifi in all rooms plus a computer for guest use.

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighborhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
