Could not be more pleased with our decision to stay at Azukiya! The house is beautiful, clean and comfortable. Chieko was an amazing host and is incredibly kind. She cooks delicious breakfast and is very gracious - she lent us umbrellas when it was raining and even dried out our shoes in the morning. She also provided us with great... More

This small, traditional Ryokan is located in an old house and full of nice little details. Chieko the very friendly and cheerful owner put a lot of effort and taste in the house to make a gem out of it. Great location; walking distance to the eastern tempels and Kodai-ji. The Metro is close for other sights. If you are... More

My husband and I had a phenomenal four-night stay at Azukiya. Great location, right next to the Keage metro and Philosopher's Walk. Beautiful room in a lovely renovated traditional Japanese house, very nice western-style bathroom, and fantastic amenities (we had coffee/tea every morning in our room's sitting area). Breakfast was wonderful - alternated from Japanese to Western style. The best... More

We found Azukiya from trip advisor. We stated three nights at the town house "Sem" as the other two were fully booked. We had a very lovely and comfortable stay. The house is fully equipped with kitchen, bathroom with plenty of clean towels and come with portable heater. Everything is clean and spotless. On the second level, there is bedroom... More

We stayed five nights at Azukiya and had such a wonderful week. Chieko is a very welcoming, considerate, and helpful host. She made us breakfast every morning, alternating between Japanese and Western style meals, both of which were substantial and delicious. She always made sure to ask whether our daughter would like something different made just for her. All the... More

Azukiya is our best stay in Kyoto. The house is almost 100 years old, very traditional Japanese style with a pretty and well taken care of garden. Everything in the house is very detailed, you can tell Chieko really put her heart into it. Great location right by subway station and many famous temples. Chieko is a very welcoming and... More

This typical Japanese B&B was recommended by a Japanese friend of mine from Tokyo who stays there when she goes to Kyoto. What a great piece of advice! Azukiya is a nicely decorated and cosy small B&B, in which you feel like home. It's in a good location to visit within walking distance the many temples, shrines and parcs of... More

The B&B is located right next to the Keage station, a couple of stops from the center and within walking distance of some of the main temples of the East side. The owner is wonderfully welcoming and helpful. We had the 2nd floor room which had a little sitting area, a sleeping room and an ensuite bathroom, all tastefully decorated... More

By staying at Azuki-ya we felt that we really got to see a little slice of Kyoto life. The owner Chiako, was very helpful and is a fantastic cook. The ryokan is a typical old style-Kyoto home, and we truly felt like guests of the family. There are only 3 rooms, so it is quiet, cozy, and charming. Our room... More

Staying in City Center

Neighborhood Profile
City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.
