Authentic, stylish, comfortable, all mod cons with an absolutely wonderful host. We loved our stay with Chieko who looked after us so well. Breakfast is well worth having, everything home cooked and a good way to explore Japanese food. very well positioned to explore Kyoto on foot and very close to subway. Chieko speaks good English and is very helpful...

Near to a subway station, the Azukiya B & B is the perfect base for Kyoto. And Chieko the perfect host! We (2 adults and 2 teens) enjoyed our stay. The comfortable beds provided a restful sleep and Chiekos breakfast enough energy to discover Kyoto. Thank you very much for a wonderful stay.

Chieko was a delight and extremely helpful. Azukiya is a fantastic authentic Japanese guesthouse. We stayed in the upstairs room and it was just lovely. The food that Chieko prepared was divine and up there with the best food we tried in Japan. Fantastic place to stay in Kyoto, we will definitely stay there next time we come to Japan.

We just had the most amazing stay at Azukiya! Chieko is a wonderful host. She made us feel so comfortable. The B&B is very charming and was exactly what we were looking for in experiencing Kyoto. Each morning Chieko prepared amazing breakfast spreads in both Japanese and Western styles. It was so delicious! The variety and amount of food was...

We had a very nice stay at (Guesthouse) Azukiya, in particular thanks to Chieko-san who was an excellent host. She made us feel very welcome and took very good care of us during our stay. We had the downstairs room with a view on the garden (with a private toilet). The downstairs bathroom may have been shared, but it felt...

Could not be more pleased with our decision to stay at Azukiya! The house is beautiful, clean and comfortable. Chieko was an amazing host and is incredibly kind. She cooks delicious breakfast and is very gracious - she lent us umbrellas when it was raining and even dried out our shoes in the morning. She also provided us with great...

This small, traditional Ryokan is located in an old house and full of nice little details. Chieko the very friendly and cheerful owner put a lot of effort and taste in the house to make a gem out of it. Great location; walking distance to the eastern tempels and Kodai-ji. The Metro is close for other sights. If you are...

My husband and I had a phenomenal four-night stay at Azukiya. Great location, right next to the Keage metro and Philosopher's Walk. Beautiful room in a lovely renovated traditional Japanese house, very nice western-style bathroom, and fantastic amenities (we had coffee/tea every morning in our room's sitting area). Breakfast was wonderful - alternated from Japanese to Western style. The best...

We found Azukiya from trip advisor. We stated three nights at the town house "Sem" as the other two were fully booked. We had a very lovely and comfortable stay. The house is fully equipped with kitchen, bathroom with plenty of clean towels and come with portable heater. Everything is clean and spotless. On the second level, there is bedroom...

Staying in City Center

Neighborhood Profile
City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.
