Toyoko Inn is famous for their economic price and fairly good location. Kyoto Gojo Karasuma provides a convenient location to restaurants, Shijio and Gojio subway station. Bus stop is just a min walk to the hotel if you use Kyoto one day pass for the bus ride. Hotel staff can speak english, check-in is after 3pm with no exception. The...

Stay at Toyoko Inn locations frequently when travelling in Japan. They are all fairly similar with some minor variations between premises. This one like all I've been too before offers free breakfast and has an array of vending machines near the lifts. Rooms are of manageable size with the standard compact Japanese bathroom.

I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights during Gion Festival. Other budgetary hotels told 20,000-30,000 JPY per one night with single small romm, but, the rate of this hotel was about 6,000JPY. No other hotels is more reasonable than this hotel. Rate of hotels in Kyoto these days are unacceptable. The location of this hotel is prefferable as this is...

I like this location because of the convenience. Close to subway line. Walkable to Kyoto station and Shijo. Lots of restaurants and shops around the area. Family mart is literally next door. Dry-cleaner is about 3 shops down. All my daily routine activities can be done within 10 minute walk. I have joined the Toyoko inn membership. I highly recommend...

It was good value for money, but you definitely get what you pay for. The hotel was clean and had everything you would need, but it was definitely basic. Our room had a lovely view of a brick wall. Free breakfast was available, which was a nice surprise, but don't be expecting anything fancy. The location was perfect - right...

Typical of the Toyoko Inn brand, this hotel is clean and modestly priced. The breakfast area is small, and finding a seat can be a problem. The food items are limited. There are only two washers and dryers. The hotel is in the city near shops and food. It is not far from the train station, but not close enough...

Returning to this hotel after exploring the beauty of Kyoto's temples and shrines is a depressing experience. It's a cheap business hotel and it looks and feel that way. The location is alright but far from ideal. The rooms are ok too, but aesthetically unappealing. The free wifi they advertise didn't work most of the time. And the breakfast ......

This is at the more budget end of the spectrum but is nice enough. Rooms are predictably cosy in size but not too bad. Breakfast was ok, not a lot of choice or space but again not too bad. I have two main gripes - the beds are HARD. I know this is a bit of a cultural thing but...

I have stayed at this Toyoko inn location several times already. The price performance of this chain has always exceeded my expectation. The hotel is within a 5 minute walk to the gojo karasuma subway station and about a 5 minute walk to Shijo karasuma ( a big intersection with shops, restaurants and subway interchange). There is a family mart...

It is located in middle of Shijo Karasuma and Gojo Karasuma. About 5-10 min walks to both Shijo Karasuma bus station and Gojo Karasuma subway depends on your walking speed. It is situated at a place where tourist spots are easily accessible through bus only (one day pass for bus is cheaper than one day pass for bus and subway),...

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighborhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
