We loved the structure and the rooms are very comfortable! It is ideally situated close to the Kyoto Station, great for transport! And the area itself is great, full of restaurant and shops. Only "bad point" (not really bad but well...) the onsen is not a real onsen as in other Ryokan around Japan but only a hot tub, not...

This hotel sits on a quiet little side street just a block or so away from Kyoto station. Buses are the best way to get around Kyoto (buy a daily pass) and it's hard to exaggerate how handy it was to be so close to the main station. This is a small hotel in the traditional style. It is lovely...

The best value of staying in Kyoto as my opinion. Beautiful ryokan include center garden with koi pond. Public Bath and Toilet are both clean and nicely maintained. Absolutely walking distance to everywhere for your convenience stores and restaurants. Station is of course included. Staff was friendly and futon was clean in the room as well. Price was also very...

It teuthfully wasn't for me either however I can now shower in less tha 3 minutes flat. When u need a shower you need a shower!! Ha ha...

This ryokan was everything I hoped it would be: a typical Japanese hotel with a fish pond in the center and a simple room with a tatami floor and a futon bed. After a full day of visiting temples it's extremely nice to get back to the room, put on the yukata and relax with a steaming cup of green...

A really friendly, traditional inn. Rooms furnished with futons, straw mats on the floor, pillows where like rice bags, but suprisingly very comfortable. We chose a room with its own toilet and shower, it was basic but was functional, clean and tidy. Owner was very friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble, only thing you had to be in...

This place is ridiculously close to Kyoto station, but even so first time around I couldn't find it. A kind gentleman took pity on me when I was looking for it, and took me there. It’s very easy to find the place in retrospect. Make sure you exit the station on the Kyoto tower side of the building. Now, with...

We stayed here as a family in April in peak cherry blossom time....it's 5 min from kyoto station n is located on a little side street along with some lovely izakayas that serve delicious meals...perfect for a tasty dinner after a long day of sightseeing n before coming "home" to the "ryokan"... The downside is that I didn't realize how...

Excellent location. 5 minute walk from the Kyoto station, 2 minute from a big department store with lots of restaurants. Typical Japanese room, tatami floor, with traditional bed. Shared bathroom and toilet. Very pleasant and helpful staff. Fresh towels and kimonos every day. Great experience.

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighborhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
