Twin room is very small. Public areas--toilets, pantry, common room--were not cleaned thoroughly and smelled sometimes. Location is not very convenient, far from subway stations. Some guests--and perhaps hostel helpers, too--were sometimes very noisy at night. Beds are small and uncomfortable. Basically, you get what you paid for.

Although not so near to centre of kyoto but it is great to experience Kyoto that out of the busy city. Located near Horikawa Shimadochiuri bus stop so it would not be a trouble for travelling to all other parts of Kyoto. Breakfast was toast, and there were multiple choice of drinks that available all day long for free. Noticing...

Stayed at this very homely guest house for 3 days. The ground floor has a typical Japanese style sit down, with the walls lined with books. There is a small common kitchen with all basic utensils for any cooking if required. The toilets are common and well stocked and again like any Japanese house/hotel its surgically clean. There is washing...

It's a guest house and the ladies dorm are separate from the men's dormitory. Very affordable. There is a common dining table and sort of a small living room where all guests can socialize if they want. Which for us is really great because we get to talk with other travelers and share experiences if this and that attraction is...

We stayed here during a very busy time in Kyoto and it was the only guesthouse we could find vacancy for two days. The front desk was helpful and the hostel offers good amenities, like wi fi, books, kitchen. We found the private room too small, and we could hear people snoring and talking, so difficult to get a good...

This is a very lovely super-friendly; great value guesthouse; It has a comfortable communal sitting area with kitchen facilities. Free wifi and use of computer. There are books to read; a large television and dvd films to watch. It is spotlessly clean; tidy and organised. The owner goes out of his way to help with anything. The rooms are cosy...

The building is renovated (looks newly) machiya(Kyoto's traditional house). So the space is limited, but everything was neat and the service was awesome! Rooms The beds are all bunk but everyone is provided privacy by curtains. There are personal small light on the bed and clothes hungers beside. Small simple rooms with a/c. Service The service was so helpful for...

First up, this place is tiiiiiny. I travelled with much luggage, so fitting everything in the dorm room without inconveniencing fellow travellers was a bit of a challenge. That said, the beds themselves are comfortable, you have privacy curtains, a bedlight and clothes hooks. Facilities are very clean and each room key also has a key for a locker downstairs.The...

This was one of the cleanest guest houses I've ever seen in my life. The staff was fabulous, really helpful and kind, they helped me a lot. The rooms are very clean, with comfortable beds, but everything is indeed a bit cramped, just like real Kyoto homes. It's actually a way to experience life in a modern Kyoto house! The...

Stayed here for one night on May 20 with a friend and got a double room. Everything was very clean -- the lounge area, kitchen, our bedroom, flooring, toilets and showers. Bread was provided with breakfast and margarine / jam was provided in the fridge (shared for all guests), along with juices, tea, coffee, and Calpis. Toiletries (shampoo, body wash,...

Staying in Nishijin District

Neighborhood Profile
Nishijin District
A district with a long textile heritage, ancient Kyoto is still alive in the Nishijin District. Studded with its weaving factories, tea houses, and onsen, the neighborhood is charming and peaceful with a self-possessed air. Less traveled than other parts of the city, it is a district where you can take it at your own pace. Visitors can explore the many weaving and cloth houses, the free kimono shows, and the many shops selling traditional clothing and goods. Showcasing architecture with sloping roofs and wooden reliefs dating to decades past, the streets in the Nishijin District transport you back in time, making them a joy to wander.
