This was a nice hotel. Great location, near food, friendly helpful staff, huge rooms but by gosh the beds were rock hard. My son struggled to sleep and when he did, he got a really sore back. On a positive note again, the public baths on the 4th floor are really fun. There are space for 4 people to sit at the taps and a large hot tub. In case you are as silly as me, don’t forget to take a towel! It’s not like a hotel swimming pool with towels for guests there!! Also, you do need to preplan when you want to use the laundry facilities. They are available between 11-21:30 for ¥800 for laundry liquid, wash and dry.

About 2km from the railway station. I had a room on the 4th floor near the men's onsen. My room was on the front side of the hotel and still well soundproofed. Cleaning staff were more than attentive when I asked for more coffee and supplies. Nearby convenient restaurants like McDonald's for breakfast and coco for curries. About 2 km walk to Gion, the popular period shopping street. See the sand cranes down by the river. A rare treat! The imperial palace and the Shogun's palace are both within walking distance as long as you have comfortable shoes.I would definitely stay at San crane again and recommend it as great value.

We stayed in this hotel November 2017 for 7 days. We took this hotel after reading the reviews that the room was spacious for Japan. And the room was spacious indeed. We were really happy with the hotel. Not new, but very comfortable. Check-in was quick. The hotel was clean. And the area was nice and quiet but it was easy to find restaurants and convenience stores around. Even there was a pharmacy nearby. It's very close to Gojo subway station on Karasuma line. Breakfast wasn't included and it was so-so. Better to cross the street to eat at Nakau that's open from 5 AM. Or to go to Family Mart convenience store also accross the street to buy bread or bun. We were really satisfied with the hotel and when we'll come back to Kyoto: we will certainly try to book this hotel again.

We got our room for about $200 at the end of November. It's now on sale for $60 for early December stays and the room size and age matches $60 more than it does $200. Cannot say why, but I'd describe overall ambiance of the hotel as "sad". Everything is clean and in great working order. Front desk sported great looking cheerful young girls happy to help in the morning and somewhat grumpy guy and girl pair in the afternoon.

Staff were very friendly here and we left our luggage, when we returned at 7 they had put in our room for us. We stayed on the 9th floor and the room felt huge in comparison to Tokyo. Bathroom was a decent size (for Japan) and had a good shower. The bed was really comfortable and had 2 pillows which felt like a luxury. Lots of power points. It's 20mins walk from the station and we walked to nishiki, gion, Fushimi-Inari all from here.
