A fantastic, affordable ryokan experience. The rooms are authentic but still have televisions (unnecessary I thought but others might like this) and the onsen is lovely and the bathroom facilities are fantastic - all the toiletries you can think of, hairdryers and a massage chair! The bus from Kyoto station to Ohara isn't on JR passes, but wasn't really that expensive, and you paid when you got off the bus.
