It is so lovely to arrive in a foreign city and to have a genuine welcome from your hosts and to be invited into their home. This oasis is such a welcoming venue and everything is in its place. A traditional Ryokan means that everything is set out in a traditional Japanese way. If you are looking for that, then this is the place for you.
Fantastic location, right in the heart of Gion, 2 mins walk and you are into the most beautiful streets, 5 mins more and you are in a temple. Very friendly staff, and nice spacious room which was constantly replenished with fruit, little biscuits and other snacks. No onsen, but you pay an arm and a leg for an onsen in Kyoto. Quite pricey, but you are paying for a wonderful location. Happy to recommend. We didn;t eat here, but there are western and Japanese cafes in a stone’s throw for breakfast, and more Michelin starred restaurants than in London for dinner!
It's a interesting experience of japan tradition. It's clean enough, but there are a specific smell; free of charge Maiko performance; drink and foods available complimentary at the room; Very very hospitable staff;
Our room was very large, with enough space to relax at the end of a long day of sightseeing. Although food was not part of the deal, the very hospitable staff always ensured a supply of snacks and green tea. They helped arrange restaurant bookings and were always willing to help with anything we needed. Lovely place that felt like home.
The service provided inside is excellent. The staff is very helpful and the boss is very funny. Though there is no breakfast provided, they offered me with dessert and bread and cake all the time and gave me a detail map for the nearby breakfast place (with opening time!). On Saturday, the hotel arranged the dancing show and a chat with kabuki. They prepared tempura for us when the show started. The room is very clean and spacious. I lost my earring (very little earring) and the next day they found it out and gave back to me. Location is very good.
