Greatly enjoyed our stay at Ryokan Nenrinbo. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The location is on the North-East edge of Kyoto which makes it great for Kinkaku-ji (the Golden Pavilion) and the other temples in this area. They provide good shuttle service to a local bus/subway station which make connection to the rest of Kyoto fairly easy. Google... More

Very good for relaxing and so comfortable. Hotel service is also nice too. Full-boards are delicious and have variety kind of Kaiseki japanese food. All are quite suitable for room price. We can see the nature view from Onsen room. can

Wonderful royokan in lovely Kyoto. There is a shuttle which will pick you up. I missed it but it only cost 1200 yen to take a taxi. The room was so cool and the onsen was relaxing. Do your research on etiquette in an onsen. Delicious authentic Japanese breakfast. Do your research on tipping culture in Japan. Remember to bring... More

I thought this ryokan was very beautiful. The area was beautiful as well. We took a walk around the area one evening and it was so lovely. This place is lush and green and quiet and just what we needed. The dinner and breakfast was great too. It was a good opportunity to try lots of different types of traditional... More

Ryokan Nenrinbo is nestled in a great spot in the mountains to the north of Kyoto. It's a beautiful hotel and offers a properly authentic experience. The front desk staff are incredibly efficient and attentive, speaking great English. The dining experience was a little intimidating due to the language barrier, though - it would have been nice to have someone... More

We stayed at nenrinbo for a night in jenuary. After the dinner you will sleep in a soft and comfortable futon and the... More

The location, the rooms and the staff were exceptional. After a day out touring it was bliss to visit the onset, relax and then enjoy dinner. Friendly concierge went to the trouble of writing out an itinerary for us (included the bus numbers!). The staff in the dining room were a delight.

Staying in Northern Kyoto

Neighborhood Profile
Northern Kyoto
Hot springs and historic temples characterize the leafy landscapes of Northern Kyoto. Acres of tranquil residential streets are interrupted by some of Kyoto's most gorgeous architectural gems, including the majestic Golden Pavilion of Kinkakuji, the serene artistry of the Ryoanji Temple rock gardens, and the bold red paint across the structures of Enryakuji Temple. Once a religious core of the city, the district now boasts some of its most remote and peaceful hot springs, as well as a few of its best family-run mom-and-pop restaurants. A blend of extremely local at its outskirts, and highly peopled at its tourist centers, Northern Kyoto nonetheless retains a halcyon air in harmony with nature.
