If you are looking for a good price Ryokan close to the central train JR Kyoto station, this is your choice. Rooms are big and clean. Very well prepare with all amenities you may need (included your Kymonos!). Service is good and attentive. The common baths are OK. You have a big lobby with good resting-waiting areas. Around the hotel... More

Room was ryokan-style, but overall the hotel had a modern feeling to it. Spacious room. Very convenient location a few minutes walk from Kyoto station. The public bath was clean and well-maintained. We were disappointed because our reservation included breakfast, but the breakfast area was closed due to maintenance.

friendly services and easy to any sightseeing. it is close large-scale tax-free shop and Kyoto station, so even rainy you also can enjoy your time. you also can experiment culture, especial as public bath room with your family or Tatami bed.

We found the Ryokan Sanoya comfortable, clean, and conveniently near to the the JR Kyoto station and Yodobashi, and had an enjoyable 2 night stay:) We booked the traditional Japanese room with 4 futons on tatami mats so that the kids and baby could roll around safely at night and we were too tired to mind that the futons can... We booked our accommodation in Kyoto a little late and didn't have a lot of options in busy April and Hotel Sanoya was the only one that could accommodate our party of 5 (3 adults 2 young children). Having never stayed in a Ryokan style hotel before we didn't quite know what to expect but the moment we arrived every... More

Very basic hotel, food was okay. Internet was hit or miss in the room during peak usage. It's great to be so close to the train station, but there wasn't much to necessarily love about this place. The staff was friendly. Best used for it's location.

Very friendly stuff and we got the futon bed room on the 2nd floor. The location is just on the first block near the Kyoto train station where all the major bus departs (tourist lines 100 and 101 among others). They are quite a lot to do in the train station area (Isetan department store + Porta dinning restaurants +... More

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighborhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
