Hotel Granvia was an ideal location for our group of nine travelling by the bullet train from Tokyo to Kyoto and then onward to Osaka. We had lots of luggage and with the hotel located on the main JR Station it meant we didn't have to cart or organise all this luggage from the station to a hotel located elsewhere....

I really wanted to give the Hotel Granvia Kyoto an 'excellent' overall rating. That's what I would have given it had I been reviewing my stay there a few years ago. Like last time, the Concierge service was truly indispensable for the help in booking a kaiseki meal at a 3-star Michelin restaurant. This time we were there the first...

Great location to stay. If you are travelling from other places to here, the hotel is just on top of the train station. Very convenient with many other shops and stores all near by. the bus station is also just beside the hotel. Except for the corridor is very long, as each floor has many rooms.

We've stayed in this hotel many times. It is in the perfect location for easy access to train, subway, buses and taxis in Kyoto. Although right in the station it has a wonderful quiet and relaxing lobby. Rooms are well appointed and relatively spacious. For friends going to Kyoto, I always recommend this hotel.

This hotel was had great facilities, clean, efficient staff and so central for shops and even some temples. Several shrines were within walking distance. Also it meant we really had so many choices for restaurants and all fast food.

Location location location and this is a great one. Second time coming to Kyoto. First stay was new miyako. This time we felt the room was much better all around. Plus the walk to the buses is so close maybe 80meters from the lobby to the first buses. Taxis are closer but with the bus pass (cant beat the price)....

A great hotel and location for a base in Kyoto, it has to be seen to be believed. Only in town for a 3 nights, it was the ideal spot, slap bang in the middle of town, above Kyoto station, which is a hub for numerous lines snaking out to the various temples and sights. Shopping and restaurants are on...

1st time to Kyoto and after doing some homework, decided on this beautiful, conveniently located hotel. However, what impressed us most (we travel as an extended family of 22 members), is the impeccable services of your staff; Mr Tadashi Tanaka. He make us feel at home and doing his best, providing information and making our stay a very pleasant one....

This is my second time stay here and 3rd time in Kyoto -- meaning I've decided that every time I visit Kyoto I will definitely stay here at least for part of my journey. Location is one of the reasons of course, right above Kyoto station with lots of restaurants just downstairs, easy access to around Kyoto and to other...

We chose this hotel after reviewing earlier posts and because it is right at the railway station. We arrived rather late after ten p.m. but there were no problems checking in. Our room was most comfortable, the restaurants were good and we would sty there again

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighborhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
