In November, ive stayed here with my wife. The location, authentic kyoto's kaiseki, hospitality, everything's perfect! If you want to experienece the true good-old Kyoto days, this is the "must" place to stay(A Japanese man says so,trust me on this!) Enjoy your travel in Japan!
I've been trying to book this place since 2 years ago and finally out of a whim, I managed to secure a reservation and never have I been this pleased so far in my indulging. I've been to Kyoto more than my fingers can account for but I keep coming back regardless of the hordes of tourists who are all in to take away with them the rich and historical aspect of the old capital. Shiraume is tucked away in one of the oldest roads along the Shirakawa River from the bustling shopping arcade. Traveling solo, I've never felt more accommodated under the care of Tomoko-san and her staff with such attentiveness that I couldn't bear to leave even after 2 nights. After many conversations, I got to know Kyoto more than I could in the trips I've made throughout the years. How can I go to other ryokans not expecting the same thing? What am I suppose to do but to book the next following trip. I can go on and write a journal based on just my 2 days but there are plenty of other reviews here to come to a conclusion that you can't choose a better place than Shiraume. Regardless of it's imminent charms of a traditional ryokan, you can't compare it to even one of the most luxurious places there is even if it was a place inlaid with gold. …
Look no further: this is the best, most beautiful location in Kyoto. For the past ten years of visiting Kyoto, I've always stayed in Gion, but I've never stayed in a more perfect place than Shiraume. Your night will include a view of the canal, white herons, wooden baths, weeping willows, splendid old artwork, sweet service, and waking and dreaming in an authentic, former geisha house. Your time will be lovely, dreamy, and unforgettable.
We booked to stay one night in the ryokan and it was the absolute highlight of our trip to Japan. We stayed in another part of Kyoto for a few nights and ended up going for a walk through Gion and came across the river and the row of houses and mentioned how nice it would be to stay in a place like that, before realising it was the ryokan we had booked (an old geisha house in a former life). The location is excellent, right in the heart of Gion. The food is incredible and the service of the staff was outstanding, a real gem. We will definitely be back!
Staying at BAIAN by Shiraume , was one of the many highlights of our trip to Kyoto. It felt like a home away from home. It was an interesting insight into the Japanese way of living. The place has been converted from an Okiya to a ryokan , which gives an intriguing insight into life in a Okiya. The ambience felt serene and relaxed. I truely enjoyed our Kaiseki dinners there. The service was impeccable, but what really stood out for us, was the warmth of the people. Tomoko san was the most kind and wonderful hostess that I've ever met. She and her team always met us with a warm smile on their faces. Even before we left Kyoto, we had made up our minds to stay there again. It made our trip to Kyoto memorable and one of the best vacation stay experience. Looking forward to going back as soon as we can.…
