Have been staying at this property since 2004 intermittently and it never disappoints. Its proximity to West Lake is second to none. Its staff could not do more to make you welcome. It is spotlessy clean and its timeless decor, large rooms, spacious public areas and unique little services like the Horizon Club add up to a je ne sais quoi that other hotels lack. Any improvements through renovation, as is happening at another wing, would do well to retain all of these inestimable qualities. Keep my balcony with a lake view, hold my quality drapes and fittings, maintain my room space, luggage rack, club chairs and lamps. long corridors and expansive gardens. They all add to an other world charm and the hotel's heritage, heritage, heritage.
Came on a business trip and not stay for last 20+ years. The cozy atmosphere is amazing with clean and tidy room. Front desk staff was helpful and friendly especially Lisa and Hugh. This hotel is close to all the attractions and I will definitely come back on my next trip.
Should be a 2-star motel! Dirty and old facilities. Service, particularly in the pool & gym area (not even connected to hotel) is hostile (not a language barrier issue since we speak Chinese, which is required). Yuck. Yuck. Yuck.
Beautiful, grand hotel right on the magnificent Westlake. We are a family of 3 and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. I don’t believe there is a better place to stay in Hangzhou if you want to be close to its main attraction, The Westlake. The rooms, although somewhat dated, were perfect with everything working properly and very, very clean. Beds very comfortable and AC a delight to come back to after strolling around the searing hot temperatures of August in Hangzhou. I was told half the hotel, which is another building, was under a total renovation and when that is finished the building we stayed in will be closed for renovations. Breakfast was delightful, we booked Horizon Club so had access to the lounge and all its value added benefits; try the Angus beef burger at Happy Hour, although you’ll probably have to skip dinner. Reception service and restaurant service were both very friendly, efficient, and had good English skills. If I get the chance I will certainly return here. Would love to see what it’s like after the renovations are complete.…
Westlake at Hangzhou is one of the prettiest lake in China. It is big with lots of different points of interests along the lake. This Shangri-La hotel is situated in walking distance to the lake. It is probably a very nice hotel when it was built but now it is a bit dated. It does not have a bar so if you feel like a nightcaps, you have to go out to some place else.
Well, surprisingly Shangri-La Hangzhou seems so outdated that when you came here seems like, you came to 2 star hotel. Oops. They need to renovate very soon with modern interior. Please upgrade your hotel as soon as possible because you use Shangri-La brand as known as 5 star hotel. The breakfast is just standard of common hotel not much variety of food. But, I like their ice cream a lot. Really love the ice cream. Especially matcha and rum flavour. Not sure about the brand is. But it tastes super super good! The service at front desk is friendly, helpful, quick and have ability to speak english. The advantages of Shangri-La Hangzhou that, they have the best location just opposite of West Lake, which convinient who tend to go to West Lake, Yue Fei Temple, West Lake Night Show or just walk around is suitable to stay here. …
The hotel is located at the most convenient place if you are visiting west lake. Many great places are within walking distances. Staffs are generally quite helpful and friendly, especially the young lady in Horizon Club. The speaking birds are so funny since they know both Chinese and English. However hotel facilities are a bit out-dated and looks rather historical. We are so disappointed at the fact that the 6th floor Horizon Club with a great view is closed for renovation. If we knew it earlier we wouldn't book this hotel for mid autumn day. Hotel room is okay though. Many other facilities like kid's playground, the little zoo, etc lacks maintainence or are under renovation.
Nice entrance to the hotel and a fast check in. Our room was big but the furniture dated, as well as the bathroom. A highlight was the Westsee which is just across the street and the breakfast. A great choice of excellent food.
Not much to mention when it comes to hotel facilities. Dated yet very clean and spacious, like many good old hotels. Breakfast was just so so. What makes this hotel very special is its location. West lake is literally steps away, so walking on the lake in the early morning was magical. Very close to the Impression Westlake show as well, maybe 3-5 min walk, which saves a big hassle after the show. Service at the concierge was quite polite and quick too. The only thing is that everyone spoke to me in Chinese from the beginnig, even after seeing my foreign passport, so cannot tell if their English is good enough. I speak Chinese. If your interest is focused on the lake area, I would recommend this place and I might even come back with my family. If not, not ideal since not much is around the hotel. Famous restaurants and shopping areas are about 15 min taxi ride away, which is OK but a bit of hassle. …
Positives: Location just opposite west lake Great Staff with a great helping attitude. Restaurant Food especially dinner buffet Cons Breakfast needs an upgrade as per Shangrila standards Rooms also require an update More English speaking staff required at least in-room service and restaurant Indoor Smoking area to be provided as it is very cold inside and smoking is not allowed in rooms
