We booked this hotel via booking.com based on the excellent reviews. However, when we arrived, we were absolutely shocked by how dirty and smelly this hotel is. The hotel looks nothing like the pictures on booking.com. The room was very noisy, the window couldn’t close, the bathroom looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in weeks, the carpet and walls were covered in stains, and the room smelled like cigarette smoke. The only good thing about this hotel is that we got our money back when we said we decided to cancel our booking.

Pros - water and coffee kindly provided and a range of toiletries - some nice Ikea style decor throughout the room and building - probably once looked like the photos on trip advisor and booking websites - staff were friendly, helpful, and spoke better English than many places in China and Japan - rooms were a reasonable size vs many in Asia - general location is good nearby to central areas in Xi’an including sites and shops Cons - we had two rooms the first had a hole in the window for AC wiring letting in substantial amount of cold, noise, and pollution from the busy Main Street immediately outside. We switched rooms and got the following... - shockingly unclean - bathroom did not look as if it had been cleaned in a long time - shower area so bad we did not even use it in two days! - sheets and pillows also seemed unclean, I slept in my clothes - another reason I slept in my clothes was that the room was so uncomfortably cold. Heater did not help even when set to 30C. - general building and corridors also in need of deep cleaning - smell of sewerage throughout. - breakfast was included in our booking but was never mentioned and so we did not get this.

We had a night stay in Xi'an and stayed at the Cypress Inn Pros: Fantastic location inside wall, walk to markets, drum and clock towers and Muslim section with the insane street food market is a must-do . Staff very friendly and helpful. Booked us a private tour to terracotta warriors. Rooms nice and clean. Budget friendly. Cons: we like firm beds but these are another level hard!!! Pretty much like floor boards. Everytime the shower was used a really bad sewer stench came out of drain. Also had sewer smell all through the night. Our room had the water tank above so always had water pump noise turning on/off but they did provide earplugs.

We (a group of 3 young British backpackers) stayed one night at this budget hotel/hostel on our way to Beijing via Xi’an but can honestly say we wished we had stayed longer! The accommodation is very close to the Bell Tower - about 10-15min walk, which in turn is walking distance to South City Walls, Drum Tower and the Muslim Quarter. (It’s a little tricky to find at first, but it’s near the bottom of the street -close to the Beilin Museum but not on that side of the road- next to a small shop.) The main thing about the Inn is the customer service - the young people on the desk are just so nice, especially the young girl (didn’t catch her name) who just went above and beyond - checking us in hours early, letting us go back in to use the toilets after checking out, watching our bags, giving us a goody bag, and flagging down a taxi to the train station for us and arranging the price with the driver in advance (10 RMB.) She was just so nice and you will learn quickly in China that good customer service isn’t really a thing so it was just so refreshing to find someone so helpful! Would stay again

A lovely little hostel with extremely helpful staff and friendly service. Close to shops and restaurants as well as public transport. I cannot praise the staff. The room was clean and tidy and nothing was too much to arrange.
