I stayed in a double room so perhaps my experience is not comparable to those who were in the dorms but the recent reviews trashing the place surprise me. My room was comfortable and the bathroom was clean. I consider it to be very good value for money. The building itself is very interesting and the surrounding streets are well worth exploring. I wish that I could have stayed longer.

We didn’t stay here but read that the ground Floor of this establishment housed a great beer bar and we were not disappointed. After 10 days of local low alcohol Tsingtao, Snow or Harbin brews, a Westmalle or Tripel Karmeliet, chilled and in their original glasses, as they should be served was a welcome variation to quench our thirst and fight the heat. The fries were less true to the original standard though they had the mayo to go with it. Very friendly staff and good English spoken!

I was very disappointed with this place: staff was unhelpful and not competent (said they had booked us a taxi for the following morning, and they didn´t); rooms were not completely clean (ours had a pile of rubble inside); shower areas were filthy with dust; there was absolutely no place to hang/put stuff inside our room... I could not understand how the reviews on booking were so positive, but now that I see it here on trip advisor, I get it. The only good thing about this place is the location: very central and close to the subway.

Quite possibly the worst lodgings we've had in China. Our terrible experience began right at the get-go when they could not find our reservation but did not say anything but look confused. Finally realised that some smart aleck had reserved the rooms under another guest's (also in our group) name. We had two loft rooms and both were in a sad state. The armchairs were worn, the cushions on the bed had stains, and there was a layer of dust on everything. The bathroom was serviceable until you stood over the sink, here there was a stink of the sewer that was beyond awful. Each time you brush your teeth you just feel like gagging. The room is also not well lit, and on one occasion, there was a cockroach scurrying across the floor. But what is also appalling is the complete indifference and lackadaisical attitude of the staff, in particular the male staff with long hair. When we were checking out, we asked for help with our luggage given the stairs, and he was blatantly not happy to help. Even though the manager (a lady) went to the trouble of helping with one of the suitcases to the main street, this guy just left the bags on the front stoop of the property. Totally disgraceful. I suspect that people book into this place for the location, but really there is nothing redeeming at all about this place. AVOID like the plague.

Ok, so we stayed in a double room with a shared bathroom. Yes, it was cheap, but in our opinion that is no excuse for the utter filth and bad smell of the place. We have stayed in countless other hostels of a similar price that are much cleaner. Our room simply had a bed and a bedside table. The bed was on a large wooden block; it would have been more comfortable sleeping on the floor. We attempted to have a shower, however there is only a curtain to cover your cubicle (not a door), nowhere to hang your clothes or towel and there was no hot water. We lasted 1 night and was happy to lose our money for the second night. I wouldn't even recommend this hostel for budget backpackers, as like I said, there are much better quality rooms at other hostels, for the same price.
