The hotel is run by a Chinese family who are just lovely and go out of their way to help you. It has a fantastic location in amongst the rice terraces with good views and easy access to any number of walks. The room was sparkling clean and very comfortable. The food we had over 2 nights was fantastic, cooked by the family and just delicious. Can't recommend the hotel highly enough.

Stayed for one night after hiking an hour plus from Dazhai to Tiantouzhai. You can request for rooms facing the rice terraces. The twin room was basic but adequate. There was no air-conditioner in the room, and beds were hard. Don't open the windows as insects would fly into the room. You can order dinner from the reception. Do try their bamboo rice. The hotel is made of wood, so you can hear people's footsteps clearly. The rooms are not soundproofed as well. The hotel location is good for visiting viewpoint 1 & 2 in the morning. The owners were friendly and approachable.

We stayed one night here since JinTian Guest House was full (it was recommended by Hannah, the owner). It is just a few steps away and quite similar, even though I would say maybe the views from Jinkeng were even better. Don't expect western standards, it’s not a mountain hut in the Alps. Our room and bathroom were very simple and rustic, as in any other accommodations up in the rice terraces, but that's why you come here for after all. Beds were ok and we had hot water for the shower. Just a piece of advice: remember that you are immersed in Nature, so keep windows and doors closed when leaving the room and in the evening or you may find a visitor.. Their homemade food is very good. We ate tasty dishes prepared with fresh ingredients probably picked up on the same day, one of the best meals we had in China. For breakfast you also have a choice of some western options, such as pancakes and toast. Staff is very friendly and helpful, even if English is limited or not spoken. They booked for us the seats on the bus leaving from Guilin and someone was waiting for us at the arrival in Dazhai. From the bus parking it’s about 45 minutes up the hill, but not so tiring as I had thought. The views make up for all the effort! We had to bring our suitcases since the day after we were going straight to Yangshuo. I had been told that was not a problem, since there would be ladies offering to help even if suitcases were heavy. Even if I could not help feeling guilty and ashamed for seeing an old woman carry my 35 pound bag up the hill, in the end I understood that they are used to doing that and it’s an important part of their income. As soon as we arrived they wanted to know when and at what time we were leaving, so they could come carry the bags down. The initial price was 30 yuan for each suitcase (one way), but in the end they said it was heavy and asked for 40. I would not have carried that even for 500 bucks, so the 10 extra yuan were not a problem at all. The bus leaving to Yangshuo was smaller (book it when as soon as you arrive) and we could hardly make our bags fit in the tiny luggage compartment, but it all worked out fine. It’s something one should consider when coming for an overnight in the rice terraces, though. Since we did not have much time we had considered taking just a day trip to the rice terraces. Late afternoon and early morning are the best moments to visit the place, and I am glad we made all the effort to stay an overnight there.
