We really appreciate the wonderful warm welcome and assistance my family received in these difficult times when I could not come back to China to spend Chinese New Year celebrations with my family. Special mention to Amanda, who has always been incredibly helpful to us. It is a great comfort for me to know that even though I can not be there in person, my family still had a beautiful, pleasant and warm Chinese New Year celebration. I wanted to wish all the staff at this amazing hotel a wonderful, safe and prosperous year of the Tiger. I hope to come back to China soon and enjoy the facilities of your beautiful hotel again. A huge thank you and see you soon.
A standard Shangri-La hotel, with all the normal amenities. I'd been checked into a smoking room, which smelt strong of smoke but reception were quick to change me to a non-smoking room. I'd booked the Horizon room which gave me access to the lounge. I'm not sure if I would do this again. The lounge had 'happy hour' from 5pm - 7pm each day, where food and some drinks were served. Advertised as having cocktails, this wasn't the case and everything was put away at 7pm so it did not offer a place to relax with a drink or two for the evening! The room was spacious and the bathroom had a nice bath and shower. The breakfast served in the Horizon lounge was ok, but I was put off by people standing over the food and eating! Overall, an ok stay for anyone looking for the standard Western style Hotel. …
We stayed at Shangri-La Guilin in late 2019 (pre-COVID). Our stay was exceptional. The hotel is large and well-equipped, and service was very good for the duration of our stay. - Getting there & around - We took a taxi from the airport. Guilin taxi drivers tend to be friendlier and easier to hail for Westerners when compared to their bigger-city counterparts. Some vehicles are older however, and do not have working seatbelts. The hotel offers transfers, and in reflection we probably would have liked to have booked one as we arrived quite late in the evening. As others have mentioned, the hotel is a little far from the main part of the city, with nothing particularly interesting within immediate walking distance. Some of the surrounding areas around the main road seem a bit run down (making the hotel feel a bit out of place), but there are also nicer developments and surrounds to the south of the hotel. This makes taxi or Didi the only meaningful choice to get around, which is mostly fine. - Rooms and service - We booked a room on the Horizon Club floor, and we recommend that you do the same. The Horizon Club is of a good size, with genuinely lovely staff members doing their best to make you feel at home. The spread offered each morning and evening is sufficient to eat if you're not venturing away for dinner, with good Western and Chinese options (including the local Guilin mifen; highly recommended). We also ate at Shang Palace downstairs, which was good but not amazing. In the Horizon Club, staff remembered our favourite food and drinks across our 4-night stay, always greeted us with a smile, and were genuinely pleased to be helping us out. The service alone is enough for a 5 star rating. We found that staff here speak better or similar English compared to those of 5 star Western chains in Shanghai. Rooms were decently sized and the views were gorgeous. The bed was certainly harder than other beds in Western hotel chains in China, but still comfortable. - Facilities and grounds - The hotel has aspects of a small resort, including on-site events such as singing and dancing, the petting zoo, and large landscaped gardens. Animals were quite well looked-after. I liked the pool and the gym was sizeable and well-equipped. The hotel puts a lot of effort into seasonal decorations, which was much appreciated. Ultimately, this is an ideal base from which to explore Guilin. The location is a bit away from the main city, but not inconvenient. Service was impeccable.…
I went to Shangrila for an afternoon tea. When arrived at the cafe, I waited long before someone came to me. When I ordered a afternoon tea set, I was told that I need to book 24 hours in advance. So I asked for the menu, I was told that I’d better not order a la carte as I would have to wait at least 20 min! And recommended to go the the noodle counter. I insisted to see the menu which was a sheet of paper written only in Chinese, with poor choices... Disappointed I booked aftertoon tea for the next day... what a disappointment, I join a picture of how the tea was served (no choice of tea proposed...) and you can have an idea of the rest... 24 hours to have some pitiful cakes, some meagre sandwiches and some fruits (watermelon, honeydew melon, dragon fruit) Shame on you! Personnel were very nice and trying, obviously a problem of training and management.... Such a beautiful place with such a poor operation...…
We had a family reunion there last September and it was the best experience ever! This hotel is not only with its excellent view and also their service is above and beyond. Staff, especially the lobby manager Sasa Luo . She has been incredibly friendly and helpful! She helped us with exactly what we are looking for and she has made our staying much more pleasant! And even more thanks to our cute bartender from Indonesia has gone out his way for our drinks and he really made us feel welcomed and definitely going back to his bar again! We are so delighted and appreciated.
We stayed in Shang ri la for two nights. Pros- large rooms , clean and comfortable. Cons - location is poor, food is below average , a lot of staff does not speak english . We had three meals andall of them were either tasteless , some items on menu unavailable . Would have been better if stayed at another hotel in city centre
And outstanding hotel with exceptional service. Nam Nam (duty manager) showed us to our room and nothing was too much trouble. He showed us how everything worked and went above and beyond. Our children, aged 13 and 8, loved the pool, games room and cooking, where the member of staff running the event also went above and beyond (even played just dance with my youngest!). Simply the best hotel I’ve stayed in (and I’ve stayed in a lot of hotels!) and so pleased we are coming back in four days time.
When traveling to Guilin and the surrounding area, the Shangri la has to be at the top off your list for a short stay over. The hotel honors the typical Shangri la service and kindness. We were picked up from the airport and had cool towel, refreshments, and fruit on our way to the hotel. We were greeted by kind and competent hotel staff. The room held a very nice surprise for our 8-year-old, a tent was set up in our room and a large bed was made for him to sleep in. He immediately loved it. Lunch and breakfast were solid quality but driven by the Corona situation it lacked international cuisine. We left the next day and moved closer to our Yangshuo destination (a 2 hours drive) but for sure will go back once in Guilin.
Good clean rooms (excellent bed) and nice facilities. Breakfast is good with a wide choice of more local and western food. Location is a little way from town centre and main tourist sites, but it's really not a difficult problem.
It was our first time to stay at Shangrila chain, but the experience was nothing less than exceptional. Hotel itself has a small zoo with ostrich and birds. From the room, the famous karst landscape is visible with river in foreground. Great food, hotel amenities and shows in the evening. Its easy to call Didi to travel anywhere within 5 minutes.
