Thank you all at Park Hyatt for a wonderful welcome and stay, unfortunately it was only one night. Spa has exellent massages, great atmosphere. We cannot fault, great breakfast, we were disapointed we didn't have a chance to enjoy the restaurant due to other commitments, next time... Did I mention the views.. :o)

This is my 2nd trip to Guangzhou, but first time at Park Hyatt. The hotel located in the new city, just across the river from Canton tower, and next to shopping malls. The concierge is very helpful with restaurant recommendations and transportation (thanks the lady for warning us about fake money trick of the taxi driver). Breakfast is great, you can order hot dishes from the kitchen and choose the cold dishes from the buffet line. The lobby on 65floor has a great view of Guangzhou skyline & Canton Tower. The room is spacious, even with extra bed. Nice bathroom equipment. There are free shuttle to go to/from Canton fair with cold water, chocolate bar, cold towel on the bus.

On the exterior the building is a tall and modern architecture. It seems to be one of the tallest buildings around modern Guangzhou. Has excellent views of the canton Tower from the hotel lobby and lounge. The hotel interiors is built in a classy and a modern design concept. The hotel reception lobby is very well conceptualised and located on the 65th floor of the building with excellent views of the city skyline on all 4 sides. The breakfast is also available on the 65th floor in the Italian restaurant with great views of the city. Breakfast was well laid out and offers a good variety for vegetarian guests as well. The rooms are well laid out and comfortable with stylish interiors and spacious bathrooms. Talking about the gymnasium the hotel has a Great gym with state of the art lifefitness equipment. I enjoyed my work out on two occasions there. I am positive to select this hotel again in future.

I stayed from 29 May to 31 May. Some of the front desk and concierge staff were not as professional and competent as expected from staff at Park Hyatt. When I asked to upgrade my room to a suite upon check-in, the front desk clerk did not take the time to explain the options I had. He also did not explain the particulars of the deposit he was taking --- merely giving me a lump sum amount to charge to my card. I had to ask for the particulars of how that amount was calculated and asked questions to confirm that it was a deposit, and not a charge. On 30 May, rather than provide me with simple information about the local post office that I asked for, front desk staff referred me to Concierge and the Concierge INSISTED I give him time to make enquiries with the hotel’s courier for one hour. After multiple follow ups and frustrating interactions, and more than 5 hours, I was provided more than double the price I was quoted to send my items, which I repeatedly informed them had to be sent that day and which I did not mind sending myself at the post office and which I expressed I wanted to take to the post office early in the day. After confirming the price of the courier in more than 1 frustrating interaction with the Concierge, I was advised past 4pm that the price to send them was suddenly more than double the quoted price (and more than 4x the value of the items). This was too late in the day for me to get to the post office before it closes. I eventually had to take a taxi to return my items at the store where I bought them that evening. When confronted about the anxiety caused to me the whole day, staff from both front desk and concierge merely provided the excuse that the courier gave the wrong information and the staff ‘tried his best.’ as if I run a hotel school for the staff and am obliged to allow them the freedom to see what they can achieve with their best with no commitment to service. To add insult to injury, after I checked out and went to the lobby restaurant for a late lunch before my evening flight, I overheard a female front desk staff say in Mandarin that ‘that person has come back again’ as I was crossing the lobby, probably not realising I knew enough Mandarin to understand what she said. I commend the housekeeper assigned to my room, who was very efficient, professional, and had impeccable manners. The manager at the breakfast buffet (in a black pant suit) was likewise efficient, helpful, and very polished.
