The room was excellent and the hotel was beautifully located on Shamian island. The staff were generally good though their English was not brilliant and they could not help me make a phone call to a tour operator. All said, I would without hesitation return

I spent a total of 8 nights there at the Guangdong Victory Hotel. Found the location to be pretty good. Fortunately, I was located in the West wing which made it easy for me to get in and out of Shamian Island by cab. The bridge crossing near the West wing of the hotel made it a convenient reference for...

This hotel was built by British in 18th Century, formerly named Grand Victory Hotel. Located in Shamian Island, it was a landmark in Guangzhou, before new hotels were built in the city since early 80s. The old glamour was still there, though the rooms were a bit dated. I like those old furniture and photos displayed in the hotel lobby....

Confusingly there is an east bldg and west bldg two blocks from each other. Expedia printout said east bldg which is their mailing address so I had to walk back and forth twice as my room was in the historic west bldg closer to the metro station. From the metro take the pedestrian bridge across the busy road then you...

I booked 3 nights at Victory Hotel, October 29-31, 2016 through booking.com. I prepaid 3 nights. When I arrived at Victory Hotel, they said there was a 50% service fee nightly, making my stay much more costly than anticipated. They did not honor the price from booking.com and instead upcharged me a full 50%. I complained to deaf ears, so...

Staff had minimal English. Lobby very nice, clean, and well appointed. Room had old carpet, smelled of cigarette smoke, and in need of a good clean. Bed comfortable, carpet dirty, bathroom passable. I got used to the musty smokey smell, but never felt all that clean in the room. Chinese restaurant on premises very good.

My wife and I stayed here in June 2016.This is a fantastic old style hotel restored with all modern touches. The island is a welcome retreat from the bustle of Guangzhou. Close by there are several great restaurants. Very comfortable room. Fantastic roof top pool.

The Shamian Island is so peaceful and quiet compared to the rest of Guangzhou. The buildings are full of history and the avenues are great to walk through. We have stayed here many times for business and can not fault it. The pool on level 9 has nice roof top views.

What a nice break from the fast paced city life. We stayed in the balcony king room, the bath tub is amazing and big. The king size bed wonderfully soft, beautiful balcony overlooking a busy street, great for people watching and afternoon tea. Staff is polite and helpful. Room is clean extras such as toiletries I expect in western four...
